Random Internet Access Problems
Posted 06 July 2011 - 07:56 PM
I can't reproduce it on demand because it happens randomly. I boot up Windows and when I open my browser(s) IE8 or Firefox, they cannot connect to the internet. A simple reboot sorts it out 99% of the time.
I just wondered if anybody else is/was having similar issues and if so have you managed to sort it?
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x86
Thanks in advance

After a few emails to and from Ilya, it became apparent that we could be there all day and still get nowhere. So I decided to try disabling the Windows 7 firewall and see if that helps. When I went and had a look at the Windows 7 firewall, I noticed a couple of firewall rules that were blocking incoming connections, one for IE8 and one for Firefox.
These rules are there because a streaming video site I use causes my browser(s) to request incoming connections, and I block these because I don't see the need for incoming connections if I'm just watching streaming video.
So I've left the Windows 7 firewall enabled, but I've removed those two rules that block incoming for IE8 and Firefox.
Since removing these rules the original problem hasn't surfaced, but it's early days.
I'll report back if the problem returns, or in a week or two if the problem seems to have gone away.

The way I see it is it's a small price to pay for excellent internet security :-)

it's quite strange because I used DW regularly from many years (I'm on 7x64, now...) and this kind of a problem never happended to me , never. But I use Look 'n' Stop as my main firewall, if it can ever made for a diiff?rence here. By any ways, just hope you and Ilya will settle with your strange problem shortly.

Yes, I remember having had a chance in the past to see all the efficiency and effectiveness of your driver sets testing method, allowing you to find the culprit of some bizarre technical problem between DW and my system! It also remind me that I found your approach very thorough, by then.

The amount of time it would take for such a minor issue isn't worth it IMO.
