Java 7 has released! Jul 28, 2011
"We are excited to announce Java 7 is released!
With years of hard work from our dedicated engineers, the largest team ever to work on the Java language and platform, as well as valuable input from the Java community, we are moving Java forward with this release.
This release contains new language features (JSR 334), support for dynamic languages (JSR 292), a new multicore-ready API (JSR 166), new I/O APIs (JSR 203), and many other new features.

Note: Java SE 6 will no longer be publicly available after July 2012.

The full internal version number for this update release is 1.7.0_1-b08 (where "b" means "build").
The external version number is 7u1.
This release contains fixes for security vulnerabilities.

This Critical Patch Update contains 20 new security fixes for Oracle Java SE. 19 of these vulnerabilities may be remotely exploitable without authentication, i.e., may be exploited over a network without the need for a username and password. Oracle strongly recommends that customers apply Critical Patch Update fixes as soon as possible.

The full internal version number for this update release is 1.7.0_02-b13 (where "b" means "build").
The external version number is 7u2.
This update release contains functionality enhancements for Java applications:
- New JVM (Java HotSpot Virtual Machine, version 22) that improves reliability and performance
- Support for Oracle Solaris 11
- Support for Firefox 5 and later
- JavaFX is included with Java SE
Java SE 7u2 contains Olson time zone data version 2011l. For more information, refer to Timezone Data Versions in the JRE Software.
Additional Certified System Configurations
For Java SE 7u2, the following system configurations have been certified:
- Oracle Solaris 11
- Firefox 5, 6, 7, and 8

The full internal version number for this update release is 1.7.0_03-b04 (b05 in Windows, where "b" means "build"). The external version number is 7u3.

The full internal version number for this update release is 1.7.0_04-b20 (where "b" means "build"). The external version number is 7u4. The release includes bug fixes and performance enhancements. 7u4 also includes the first Oracle JDK release for Mac OS X. JavaFX 2.1 is now bundled with the JDK on Windows and Mac.
This update release contains the following enhancements:
- JDK Support for Mac OS X (Lion and above)
- New JVM (Java HotSpot Virtual Machine, version 23)
- New Supported Garbage Collector: Garbage First (G1)
- JavaFX 2.1 Runtime co-installs with JRE 7 during auto-update
- JAXP upgraded to 1.4.6
- Java DB upgraded to 10.8.2.2
- SPARC T4 specific crypto optimizations in the security area
- New flag to unlock Commercial Features
Java SE 7u4 does not add any fixes for security vulnerabilities beyond those in Java SE 7u3.
The JRE 7 for Mac OS X Developer Preview for Java Developers is now available on jdk7.java.net
