I am getting the virtual call function error with Norton Anti Virus as well as my internet connection seemingly disconnecting. When I reboot I have internet back and then after a while it seems to stop working again and my browser wont connect to websites.
Norton two days ago told me I had the goebot (sp?) virus and couldnt delete it , now nothing seems to be running right.
I tried to follow some of the suggestions from posts here and it seems to keep happening. Here is my most recent HiJack this log...

What suggestions did you follow exactly? You didn't make any fixes with HijackThis did you. I need to know that.
I don't see any evidence in this log of Gaobot running.
1. First, please search your system for a HOSTS file. If found, please rightclick to open and you'll get a popup box. Put a dot in *choose program to open* and then choose either Notepad or Wordpad to open it. If you see any entries inside starting with 127.0.0.* (where * is any number), delete those entries except for the one that says localhost. Close the file and you should be able to access the sites you need.
2. get an online AV scan immediately at one (preferably two) of the following:
Panda's Active Scan
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
Trend Micro (PC-cillin) - Free on-line Scan
http://housecall.antivirus.com
RAV Antivirus Online Scan
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/
eTrust AV web scanner (Computer Associates)
http://www3.ca.com/v.../virusscan.aspx
Let them remove any infected files found.
Reboot your PC between each scan.
3. If your NAV is working again, get the latest updates and scan your system with that as well. If NAV is NOT working see the final NOTE below to try to fix it.
What to do if NAV still doesn't work:
Error: "Runtime Error! . . .C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\<File name>. . .R6025 - Pure virtual function call" when running Norton AntiVirus
Auto-Protect displays "Off" and Email Scanning displays "Error" in the Norton AntiVirus 2003 System Status screen
4. We might as well get rid of some of the spyware you have on there.
Please make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into. Anywhere on your hard drive is fine other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. We suggest you use C:\Program Files\HijackThis but feel free to use any name or folder you like. Unzip HijackThis again and save the contents (Hijackthis.exe) to the new folder you made. Then navigate to it and run HijackThis from there. This is to ensure it makes the necessary backups for recovery if needed.
Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an x in the boxes next to these items, then press *fix checked*

OK looks like its running smoothly again.
My Norton is not dying on the runtime error anymore, and actually found 3 more viruses in some IE downloaded files folder and cleaned them without error.
I had removed a Microsoft.exe set of entries in hijack this as was described in another post, as well as a file with random alpha characters like akjdhgu.exe as well. I did it all in safe mode and ran Pandasoft's antivirus from safemode with networking support. It found a virus there too (some trojan). Guess I really got nailed.
Thanks for all your help.
Here is my log as it is now... (looks clean).

Now that your PC is clean, make sure all programs are running properly and then you'll need to reset your restore point in Windows XP.......why?
One of the best features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus infects a computer with this operating system the virus can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.
To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.
(winXP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Reboot.
3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

And please be sure to visit Windows Update - get ALL the critical security updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.

This worm can spread using unpatched exploits in Windows.
