Hi dave_ecw,

Go to Online malware scan and submit C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe.

Tell me the result.

You might want to save this page on your favorites, so you can find it again when you return. You can also click on your name and click on "Find All Posts" to find your thread.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\DXZLR07G\EZAntivirus[2].exe
C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\pft97.tmp\setup.exe

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {E0E899AB-F487-11D5-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - (no file)

These programs should not from temp. Please install them on a regular location.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cleanup] C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\2006123192216_mcappins.exe /v=3 /cleanup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msci] C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\2006123192159_mcinfo.exe /insfin

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CTFMON.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe

You are using LimeWire. This is not technically malware by itself, but it installs malware in order to run properly and it opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I strongly recommend that you remove it. Read this article for alternatives that will provide some of the same function without the garbage: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/ If you opt to remove it, first use "Add/Remove Program" to remove it and any reference to LimeWire.
This is another article: http://www.cexx.org/adware.htm

If you are going to uninstall this program, also check this item:

O4 - Startup: LimeWire On Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe

Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked". Restart your computer and post a new log in this thread.

Go to "Start" -> "Run" and type in the box: "cleanmgr". Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press "Ok" to remove:
  • Temporary Files
  • Temporary Internet Files
  • Recycle Bin
Please create a list of programs that can be removed using Add/Remove Programs
Start HiJackThis. Click "Config"->"Misc Tools"->"Open Uninstall Manager" ->"Save List".
Save the log to a convenient location, and copy it into this thread.
