I recently fell under virus attack.. have since cleaned all infected files.. but this remains...

RUNDLL

Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL (on every start up of comp)

The specifed module can not be found

If you have a Dell computer, most likely My WebSearch came pre-installed by Dell. I won't go into the merits of that decision by Dell, but they would the first line of contact.

I will be glad to look at your HJT log.

Create a directory on your hardrive to save HijackThis.exe. A directory like c:\hijackthis. If you do not do this, you will not be able to use the backup/restore features.

Download HijackThis from:

HijackThis Download Site

Save this file into the directory you made previously and then run the program named hijackthis.exe. When the program opens click on the Config button, then click on the Misc Tools button, and click on the Check for update online button. When it completes checking/applying updates press the back button.

Now click on the Scan button and when it is finished click on the Save Log button. A Notepad window will open with the contents of this log. Click on Edit then click on Select all. Then click on Edit and then Click on Copy.

Create a reply to this post here and right click in message area and select paste to paste the log into the post.

Someone will reply to you after reading this post. DO NOT fix any entries unless you understand what you are doing.

i wanna be sure that i was clear b4.. reading back it was a bit late when i wrote topic..
--i use windows XP
--Emachines

and my spyware/adware ect.. has been removed by a program called "pest trap"... all pop ups/lag ect.. has been fixed...

but this error message has been poping up since about 2 weeks b4 i used pest trap... would u still like me to follow the above steps.. or maybe a different idea?

PestTrap is on the Rogue/Suspect Anit-Spyware list. I certainly hope you did not waste good money on it, See 'Pest Trap" at this link: http://www.spywarewa...nti-spyware.htm

Use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall PestTrap then follow the instructions in my last post and post a HiJackThis log in this thread.

and pest trap acually works very well asfar as i can tell right now.. does not conflict with norton... and has kept my comp runnin smooth, since the install.. this DLL file error has been sinse b4 i downloaded anything.. anyway.. below is the hijacklog u requested...

First:
The choice of removing rogue anti-spyware, is always your option. We recommend removal since these products often use false positives and are usually deficient in current detection. I am not sure if you checked the link I provided, but here is what was said about PestTrap:
aggressive, deceptive advertising (1); false positives work as goad to purchase; inadequate scan reporting; same app as Brave Sentry, PestWiper, SpyDemolisher, SpySheriff, SpyTrooper, SpywareNo, & Spyware-Stop



There are superior, trust worthy applications that will detect and remove spyware for free!!!


Second:
You are currently using hijackthis from a temporary directory, or from the Desktop.
This can cause problems and will leave backups scattered.

Please create a directory on your c: drive called c:\hijackthis and download and unzip hijackthis into that directory.
Run the program from that directory from now on.

It is essential that you follow these steps or certain important features of the program will not function correctly.


Last:
Reboot in Safe Mode* and run HiJackThis. <-- IMPORTANT

Check the following items in HijackThis.
(note: If any R* items mark for deletion, do not appear in Safe Mode, re-run HiJackThis in Normal Mode and remove them after you finish removing these items.)

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked.


While still in Safe Mode*, delete the following: (you may need to show hidden files**)
(Files specified without a full path will be located in C:\Windows\ or C:\Windows\System32\)

Also, uncheck the boxes for hiding known file extensions and hiding protected operating system files. We want to see it all. When we finish here, it would be a good idea to rehide the protected operating system files but leave the rest to be shown.

Reboot in normal mode

Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

i understand everything except how to creath a directory.. i simply made a file in the C drive and named it accordingly.. i thought that did it.. is there a link or info page u know of.. to learn how to create a directory..? then ill folow the rest step by step as u listed it

Creating a directory is a simple step.

Open your 'C' drive in My Computer
Open the Program Files folder
Right Click on a balnk area of the open Program Files window
Select New -> Folder
Name the folder HiJackThis

Leave that window open
Open a new window and navigate to where you have HiJackThis stored. Right Click -> copy
FInd the HiJackThis folder and then Right Click -> Paste

If you want, you can make a shorcut to the HJT program and put it on your Desktop.

First:
Download: Clear the Cache (freeware) http://www.ccleaner.com/ Once installed, run CCleaner click the Windows [tab] Select the following options: (not all are available for Win98/ME)
Next: click Options click Advanced
Uncheck: "Only delete files older than 48 hrs", click Ok Then click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then Exit

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each user!



Second:
You still have HiJackThis is a temporary folder. PLease see my previous instructions for moving HJT to its own folder.


Third:
Reboot in Safe Mode* and run HiJackThis. <-- IMPORTANT

Check the following items in HijackThis.
(note: If any R* items mark for deletion, do not appear in Safe Mode, re-run HiJackThis in Normal Mode and remove them after you finish removing these items.)
