Night before last I did a virus scan using StopSign. The next morning I had no internet connection. I assumed it was a server issue but decided to reboot anyway. It worked. I had to do this at least 7 or 8 times yesterday and it has continued today. I contacted my ISP yesterday and was advised that they are not aware of any server issues and that since rebooting corrects the problem I may have a virus. I ran eWido in safe mode and in regular mode to try and remove anything it could but it hasn't helped.

I would really like to get this fixed without having to reinstall everything. Here is a copy of the HijackThis log I just ran. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You have an Adult Dialer as an ActiveX installed as well as a trojan downloader. THe dialer probably is causing the nextwrok issues.,

Check the following items in HijackThis.

I could not locate this folder C:\PROGRAM FILES\RXTOOLBAR\ The only place I found reference to rxtoolbar is in a folder I believe to be associated with StopSign; C:\PROGRAM FILES\ACCELERATION SOFTWARE\ANTI VIRUS

As long as the rxtoolbar folder is gone. That is not something you want on your computer. I missed one item.

Check the following items in HijackThis.

O3 - Toolbar: Search - {7082060A-2B42-4822-E995-CBAE8DFF0565} - C:\WINDOWS\Fbktykmg.dll (file missing)

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked.

Reboot in normal mode

Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

Hmmm.... 30 min later and I lost connection again. Let me know if you see anything else or if you have other suggestions as to what may be causing this to happen.

Thank you for looking into this for me. I really appreciate it.

We posted our last posts at the same time, so I just now fixed that last item. I'll post again if I continue to have problems with my connection.

A dialup connection can be easily affected by ISP issues, telephone line issues, and software on your computer. There are two more entires in your log that may affect your connection. One is from eds.com and may be suspect. THe second is Spyspotter which is on the list of Rogue AntiSpyware programs.

FIrst:
Lets finish the cleanup with the log.

Check the following items in HijackThis.

O16 - DPF: EDS Host Link - http://www.hostlink....let2000_HOD.cab

O16 - DPF: {FC67BB52-AAB6-4282-9D51-2DAFFE73AFD0} - http://download.spys...rCabInstall.cab

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked.

Reboot in normal mode

Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

Second:
Lets make sure nothing is hiding..

Please download SilentRunners from here:
http://www.silentrun...ent Runners.zip

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it.
Silent Runners will ask if you want to skip the supplementary search.
Please select 'No' to include them. The program will take longer to run, but wil lgive us more information.

If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop.
The logfile is named 'Startup Programs' by default and will be located where the program is.

Please post the entire contents of this logfile for me to see.

FYI - I have highspeed internet w/ cable modem and have already contact the cable company and they say it's not a problem on their end. Plus the problem is fixed when I reboot. When it's connected it is fast, but I can lose connection w/i 30 min to 1.5 hrs and have to reboot again to get back online.

In checking the SIlent RUnners there are three Scheduled Tasks that have me puzzled:

"D7D937F69131011F" -> launches: "c:\progra~1\eachcl~1\internetsettingsbase.exe" [file not found]
"D525DB3A90AC0D8D" -> launches: "c:\progra~1\eachcl~1\internetsettingsbase.exe" [file not found]
"B9E2CCDA90997729" -> launches: "c:\progra~1\eachcl~1\internetsettingsbase.exe" [file not found]

I can find nothing via Google about the file referenced. It would seem from the name that is may have an affect on your connection. Check the folder out and see if you can find out what it is. I would like to remove these scheduled tasks but I want to try a find out if we would break anything.

Also, there are remnants from a Norton/Symantec installation on your system. This seems to be normal for them, but it leaves a lot of junk, Use this program to clean up the uninstall: http://service1.syma...n...v_lvl=&seg=

I took care of the Norton items but I cannot locate the internetsettingsbase.exe anywhere. There is not a folder on the C: drive titled progra~1. I looked in the Programs Files folder and could not find a folder with eachcl in the title.

The only thing we can do is try to remove them. If anything is damaged I have my recovery discs ready to go.

When the connection drops nothing changes with the modem - all the lights are steady except the Data light flashes.

I've also checked the connection time for the last two times that the connection is lost and it is right at 1 hour.

I ran Silent Runners again, and although I do not find these Scheduled Tasks anywhere - not even in the Scheduled Task folder they still show on the report.

Well, we cna take it down to something on your computer and I have a feeling those scheduled tasks are the cause.

The folder is C:\Program Files\eachcl??\ The notation that they are listed under is the old DOS way of handling filenames longer than eight characters.

See if that folder exists. In the meantime I am going to dig out where scheduled tasks are in the registry and we can look there. I have some things to do here so it will probably be tomorrow afternoon before I can get back with an answer.

Make sure you have your system set to show hidden files, then look in C:\Windows\Tasks\ and let me know whats there.
