SpywareQuake/SpyFalcon/Smitfraud* Removal

Note: These instructions are only for Windows 2000, XP Home, XP Pro, & 2003.

The following steps may not clean all of it, but should be a good start and will restore the desktop to default at least so you can proceed with complete removal using various tools.

1. Print out or save to notepad these instructions as we will need to do most steps offline and in SAFE MODE (so you won't have this window open to see the instruction from)

2. Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free...mitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

3. Reboot into Safe Mode**

4. Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually.

5. Now please scan with HijackThis to produce a log. We will also need the log from Smitrem: The tool will create a log named rapport/txte in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your new topic.

Logs needed in your post are:
rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed
Fresh HijackThis log

* Note: This tool removes Desktop Hijack malware: AdwarePunisher, AdwareSheriff, AlphaCleaner, Antispyware Soldier, AntiVermins, AntivirusGolden, AVGold, BraveSentry, MalwareWipe, PestTrap, PSGuard, quicknavigate.com, Security iGuard, Smitfraud, SpyAxe, SpyFalcon, SpyGuard, SpyHeal, SpySheriff, Spyware Vanisher, Spyware Soft Stop, SpywareQuake, SpywareSheriff, SpywareStrike, Startsearches.net, TitanShield Antispyware, Trust Cleaner, UpdateSearches.com, Virtual Maid, VirusBlast, VirusBurst, Win32.puper, WinHound, eMedia Codec, HQ Codec, iCodecPack, iMediaCodec, IntCodec, Media-Codec, MediaCodec, MMediaCodec, MPCODEC, PCODEC, PowerCodec, PornPass Manager, PornMag Pass, SoftCodec, strCodec, TrueCodec, VideoCompressionCodec, VideoKeyCodec, VideosCodec, WinMediaCodec, X Password Generator, X Password Manager, ZipCodec...

I just checked the Zip and the file process.exe is there. It sounds as if you ran the SmitFraud.exe program from the Zip file. You must unzip the file to your Desktop as instructed.

First:
Reboot in Safe Mode* and run HiJackThis. <-- IMPORTANT

Press the 'Scan' button and when done check the following items in HijackThis:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://my.porn-info.info/? to verify your age, REQUIRED! WARNING! Adult pictures are featured in this site. Only adults permitted beyond this point! Are you at least 18 years old

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

O21 - SSODL: exemplars - {2acf3add-34a1-4f2f-99cf-cc69785d1e90} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cwgppb.dll (file missing)

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked.

While still in Safe Mode*, delete the following: (you may need to show hidden files**)
(Files specified without a full path will be located in C:\Windows\ or C:\Windows\System32\)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cwgppb.dll

*How to Boot into Safe mode: http://service1.syma...001052409420406
**Show Hidden and System files and folders: http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html

Also, uncheck the boxes for hiding known file extensions and hiding protected operating system files. We want to see it all. When we finish here, it would be a good idea to rehide the protected operating system files but leave the rest to be shown.

Reboot in normal mode

Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

Second:

Please download SilentRunners from here:
http://www.silentrun...ent Runners.zip

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it.
Silent Runners will ask if you want to skip the supplementary search.
Please select 'No' to include them.

The program will take longer to run, but will give us more information.

If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop.
The logfile is named 'Startup Programs' by default and will be located where the program is.

Please post the entire contents of this logfile for me to see.

when I reboot in safe mode and run the hijack this. I have to use my arrow keys only. My mouse doesn't work. It will not let me " check" the items you have suggested. I am doing something wrong?

No, the exploit may have compromised your computer. Try this instead but be sure to let me know if you have the same problem with the mouse.

You are running it from the archive.

WHenever we post files that come in *.zip format you MUST extract them.

If you right click on the zip file you should have an option to extract the contents. It will create its own folder.
