Hi victorywp,

QUOTE
Sorry for the delay. I just came back from outstation. Yup, I can view hidden files & folders already. But I can't find the qwertybot.exe file from this location C:\WINDOWS\System32\qwertybot.exe. Was it deleted already? How should I tell Bobbi Flekman about this?
No need. I always check the threads I have been involved in... I know. But I leave it up to teacup.

Hello,

Sorry for my delay. I was unavoidably offline for a few days. :(

Please delete ComboFix from your system. This is important!

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.

Navigate to and delete the following files :

C:\WINDOWS\system32\comdlg77.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qwertybot.exe

Reboot into normal mode.

Please run Dr. Web again and post the report along with a new HijackThis log. Let me know also how your computer is running. :)

Thanks,
tea

Hi teacup61,

Sorry for my delay. I have gone outstation for two weeks.

I have deleted combofix, restarted in safe mode, & showed hidden files, but I was still unable to find these as you have instructed:-
C:\WINDOWS\system32\comdlg77.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qwertybot.exe

What should I do now? :(

Hi teacup61,

My PC2 seems to have been infected by something else? Each time I try to open Outlook Express, I got warning signs of "msimn.exe - Bad Image", while Internet Explorer, I got "IEXPLORE.EXE - Bad Image". Please advise..

Hello,

Were you able to run Dr. Web again for me? Also, I'd like for you to run this scan as well. It will run HijackThis for you, so no need to do that separately.

Please download ComboScan by Deckard and save it to your desktop:

* Close all applications and windows (including this one).
* Double-click on comboscan.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
* When the scan is complete, a text file will open ? ComboScan.txt.
* Copy (Ctrl + A then Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of ComboScan.txt in your next reply.
* A folder, C:\ComboScan, will also open. In it will be another text file, Supplementary.txt.
* Please attach Supplementary.txt to your post.

Note: Some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

Hi teacup61,

I have run Dr.Web again, twice. But the results are the same - done with no virus found. So I can't save its log because the save log button is inactive.

Hello there,

I've been waiting for this.....

Delete ComboScan from your system.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Please remember I told you we may not be able to fix this. The file infector you are/were dealing with causes a lot of damage to legitimate programs/files. I'm not ready to give up yet. If it comes to that point, it will be your call. :)

Regards,
tea

Hello,

Back up the registry.
Do Start->Run, enter regedit and click OK. With the cursor on 'My Computer' in regedit, right-click and select Export. Save the file as saved.reg and then exit from regedit.

Please open Notepad and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below (don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4 as well):

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\qwertybot.exe]
Save this as fix.reg and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop. It should look like this:
Double-click on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click "Yes" or "OK". You should receive a message that it was successful.

Now run ComboFix for me again, please, and post the report.

Hi teacup61,

Ok.. Now my PC2 is ok already (all programs run smoothly) after I followed all your steps accordingly. However, I can't share files with my PC1 now. I tried to set up the network again, but after I managed to share files between the two PCs, all the previous problems disturbed me again. So I run Combofix again & now both my PCs are not networked together. What should I do in order to make the network works like usual without causing the old problems to occur again? uhm.gif

Edited: It's all OK already. Thanks teacup61! guy_dancin.gif So what's the next step?

Hello,

Good to know. I'd like to see the following for #1 PC now :

New HijackThis log
New ComboFix log
New Dr. Web log

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:

This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously, along with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Thanks,
tea
