If you are behind a hardware router firewall and using DefenseWall is there any risk in not having a software FW like Comodo ?

On my older model laptop using Comodo v3 (with its HIPs component disabled) and DefenseWall slowed things down considerably.

Hello somoxxa,

The risk in not running a software firewall such as Comodo is that you will not be able to control outbound connections made by potentially malicious applications on your system. On the other hand, if you do everything humanly possible to prevent malware from infecting/compromising your system in the first place, then "only" running a hardware router firewall is a viable option. If you decide to go this route, it will free up memory resources and result in a lighter and faster running computer. In the event that you still want to run a software firewall, light and effective firewalls that you should consider to replace Comodo include PC Tools firewall(free; rebranded version of Look'n'Stop firewall, but a little bit different) or Look'n'Stop(LnS) firewall. As you will note in my signature below, I have chosen to run the LnS firewall with a hardware router firewall because I am a devout follower of a layered defense strategy. Hope this helps.

I will try Look'n'Stop with the Phantom ruleset which I used a few months ago.
Is there anything wrong with just using the Application Filtering and not Internet Filtering ?

Hello somoxxa,

I don't see anything wrong with just using application filtering and disabling internet filtering except that you will "not" be able to use either Phant0m's or the enhanced rule set.

Look 'n' Stop internet filtering is a much stronger protection than the basic filtering most routers provide and easier to access configuration. I highly recommend using L 'n' S instead of the router.

somoxxa - it's not DefenseWall; it's Comodo Firewall 3 - even with HIPS turned off;

I have reverted to v 2.4 and speed is back to normal!

Yes, I have done the same thing!!!

I suppose you could turn everything off in 2.4 except the Application Monitor and use
it like that in conjunction with DefenseWall.

I have installed LooknStop again but Defensewall lists it as a untrusted process.
How can I get it in the trusted processes list ?
I installed it as trusted in the first place.

Check out your untrusted applications list. If it won't helps- check out DW's logs entries for a "Loading untrusted/untrusted created module" items.

I have this log entry:

Loading untrusted/untrusted created module E:\Program Files\Soft4Ever\looknstop\PluginEditRawRule.dll.
Process is untrusted now.

OK, all you need is just find this entry "E:\Program Files\Soft4Ever\looknstop\PluginEditRawRule.dll" within HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SoftSphere Technologies\DefenseWall registry keys and delete all of them. This will helps.

fixed the problem.
