Good Day,

My comp was recently discovered infected with the Bloodhound.Packed.Jmp by my AV. However, it doesn't seem able to remove it as certain exe files in my comp are still frozen. I tried to remove the amvo.exe file by using HijackThis as suggessted in previous forum posting but to no avail. I sincerely hope you can offer me some advice. I would also like to know how this virus can be transmitted. I was unble to find the amvo file in the sys32 folder after starting in safe mode even though I had fixed it using HijackThis.(I made all hidden files visible). My log file is as follows:

Hi team,
I just did a full system scan using my AV. It discovered a W32.Gammina .AG virus- it has been resolved. But I do not know what is going on. I did not plug in any removable devices into my comp. My AV (Norton Internet security 2007) is current and active. I am connected to a secure broadband. Windows applications seem to be working fine. I hope I can finish my school assignments in time. Here is the latest hijack this log file:

Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Hi Lo,

Thanks for your advice. Could portable devices such as my portable hard disk, Mp3 player and hanphone harbour any virus which may be passed back to my main PC upon connection? If so, how could I sterilize these devices without losing the information on them. Below is the ComboFix log.

There some regsitry entries that point to external devices. ALl lsited are malware. You need to adjust your autorun entries so that the external drivers do not execute anything when mounted (plugged in). THen you can open each one and delete any malware, etc.

For now...

First:

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt"

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Second:
Run HiJackThis again, and post a new log in this thread.

A quick glance at your HJT log shows your system clean. But I need to see the ComboFix log to before making any final decision. You'll find it at C:\ComboFix.txt. Please post it in this thread.

THanks, that looks good. Were done unless there are issues outstanding that are not reflected in the recent logs.

Great! Thank you Sir.

I have disabled my autorun feature. When I reconnet my portable devices - how and what files should I eliminate? Btw - I had noticed my missing 10GB show up on the last ComboFix on my hard disk.

For anyone else reading this, these guys are pros and know what they're doing. Just look at my thread.

Thanks again Lo.

Hi Lo,

1) I think I spoke too soon, without installing any huge aplications or plugging any portable devices, my hard disk free space fell from 24.9GB to 16.9GB!!! Man, I could swear that whatever malware it is - its playing an April Fool prank on me. How do I check that my hard disk is doing fine?

Btw - I have been using Xilinx ISE 9.1 to work on my VHDL school project quite a bit. (Don't know if it affects my comp in any way)

2) Thereafter, I ran a full system scan using my Norton Internet security which detected the quarentined 4 files by ComboFix as Infostealer.Gampas and stated that it resolved it automatically. Is this Ok?

3) Subsequently, I used ComboFix to create a boot disk for my Windows OS. The log is shown below:

WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Home-BootDisk-ENU.exe
[boot loader]
timeout=2
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

THe drop in free space can come from several sources. Temporary files, VM files, hibernation files. and so on. 8GB seems a lot but also not unusual. YOU can check your disk for errors with check disk.

From Desktop:
Start -> Run -> cmd (press 'Enter')

At the Command Prompt
chkdsk C: (press 'Enter')

THat will check the C drive for errors, but will not fix any. If you want to fix them, the command is chkdsk C: \f, and you will have to answer 'y' to check on boot, then reboot. YOu cannot repair the boot drive when WIndows is loaded.

Hi Lo,

Disk seems OK.

How can I remove malware from my portable USB devices? Is deleting unusual files sufficient?

Thanks

Deleting should be sufficient. Reformat if you really want to be safe
