 Checking your system for unknown threats and infections? |

Because threats are constantly evovling and becoming baffling harder to detect. What coarse of actions should be taken to check your system is free from any infections? Any software that log changes made to the system? Because it's possible that a threat could hide itself from task manager, is there a reliable way to check running processes? Monitor my internet connections? What else can I do to check the overall integrity of my system?
 I'd greatly appreciate any feedback, software recommendations, tips, guides..anything!  Thank you for allowing me to be part of this community.
