Hi diesel56,

NO, do NOT check them all and fix. Some of these are essential files to your system. This is just a diagnostic log so it lists all files running, the good and the bad.

Please wait while I take a moment to review it and can return with an answer as to what to do :)
CalamityJane
Ok, first, you have a CoolWebSearch hijacker and that needs a special (free) tool to remove it called CWShredder.

Download it here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/CWShredder.exe

or

Here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?...6c5901960cc6e24

Just download it, and click on it (You will need to have all browsers and any open windows closed). Hit the *Fix* button to run it. Let it fix what it finds. When done, press *next* and you will get the results, and then *exit*
.....................................
Reboot your PC after cleaning with CWShredder and scan once more with HijackThis. Post a new log here to see what remains to be fixed, please :)

calamityjam, first thanks so much. i need to start this research paper and you are saving my life. thanks

i did what you said and ran the hijackthis again and here is my new log. i've noticed that the smart-finder.biz thing is gone....that was the website that always came up.

actually, and also wanted to ask....what if the "my search bar" is still in the list of programs in the control panel. everytime i press change/remove, it does nothing.

Please make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into. Anywhere on your hard drive is fine other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. We suggest you use C:\Program Files\HijackThis but feel free to use any name or folder you like. Unzip HijackThis again and save the contents (Hijackthis.exe) to the new folder you made. Then navigate to it and run HijackThis from there. This is to ensure it makes the necessary backups for recovery if needed.

Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an x in the boxes next to these items, then press *fix checked*

Reboot your PC and delete

C:\WINDOWS\System32\sfg20e0.dll <--delete file

It is generally recommended that you uninstall the P2P Networking. P2P Networking is a totally useless Kazaa add-on, and it's been reported to be responsible for serious system slowdowns. You can uninstall P2P Networking through Add/Remove Programs. If/when asked whether you also want to remove Altnet components, say 'Yes'.
Then remove the P2P Networking folder in C:\Windows\System32, if still there.

hey, Im a new member, especially when i saw this topic!! ;)
Calamity, you mentioned the programs to use to get rid of the smart-finder problem, as well as some various others, however, the real question is: how to get rid of that problem that diesel was experiencing when the smart-finder problem persists so much that it keeps me from even downloading anything off of the internet?

Everytime i try to download ANYTHING it automatically goes directly to that darn site Smart-Finder.biz/1524....any suggestions? THanks!
darlegionnaire
Doh! another question, i typed in my screen name wrong! its not Darl...its supposed to be DARK lol how do i change that? hehe, sorry thanks
CalamityJane
Hi Dark,

Please type out your full username you would like to use and I can change it for you :)

Next, I am attaching the CWShredder tool here in this reply. See if you can download it.

If so, just download it but before running, reboot your PC into SAFE MODE

How to start the computer in Safe mode (all)
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...001052409420406

Then click on the CWShredder.exe and run it. You will need to have all browsers and any open windows closed). Hit the *Fix* button to run it. Let it fix what it finds. When done, press *next* and you will get the results, and then *exit*

Reboot your PC back into normal mode after cleaning with CWShredder and then need for you to download and run HijackThis to produce a log.
