Hello. I currently installed a new version of Norton Antivirus 2003 professional edition. I basically cleaned out the trash in my computer. Well for the past couple of weeks i have been suspecting a virus in my computer due to the lack of antivirus. I used to have one, but the subscription expired, so I was left with nothing. Anyways, I'm afraid that a hacker might've deleted some of my computer's critical files. How do I check files that are missing? Also, my new Norton Antivirus started to protect my recycle bin, and I found out that certain system32/driver files have been deleted. I have no idea if this has any association with a hacker, or simply a file that was deleted along when i uninstalled some of my programs. The file names end with .ca^, .in^, .sy^. An example is Savrt.sy^.
Also, what is cctrust.dl^? My guess is it came along with the old norton antivirus that i recently uninstalled? But anyones response and help would be appreciated, thanks! ahah.gif

Assuming you are Windows XP, the program to check your system files is sfc. RUn form a command window as sfc /scannow. You will need access to your Windows CD, or the installation CAB's.

Also, please post a HiJackThis log so we can if there might another cause.

Download *Hijack This!*

http://downloads.net-integration.net/HijackThis.exe

Unzip to a folder other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. Then, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that and copy & paste its contents here.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet. Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
