Well I just tried running Adaware SE, and then all of a sudden I get a message that pops up that says NT is shutting down the computer: Here is the message I get: Shut Down Iniated by NT Authority\ System. Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpetedley. That is what happens when I try to run adaware


Updated: After running Spy Bot SD, I was able to run Adaware... the problem, and here is my log file now.

Since the Blaster worm infection is caused by an exploit in unpatched Windows Operating Systems, to avoid reinfection you need to be sure you have all the latest Windows Critical Security Updates. In fact, XP SP2 is now available and getting that will address numerous security issues in your Operating System and IE :)

It looks like you are using McAfee Antivirus. Make sure you have the latest updates from the program and suggest you boot into SAFE MODE and do a full system scan to see if it finds anything as well and if it is working properly.

Ok, Ran ad aware again, ran trend micro, everything came up clean.

However, I can't get SP 2 installed. It says it was downloaded (add/remove programs) yet, it is not installed, and I can't figure out where it is at to install it.

Do a search on your system for SP2-Enu.exe and Windows should find the file
It wil be a longer name (mine was: WindowsXP-KB359935-SP2-Enu.exe) howevver searching for the shorter name wll find it

It will be a rather large file...something over 270mbs for the full install

When you find it, click on the exe file to begin the install.

Now that your PC is clean, make sure all programs are running properly and then you'll need to reset your restore point in Windows XP.......why?

One of the best features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a malware infects a computer with this operating system it can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after malware removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Thank you for the help..... however, I don't seem to have that file on my computer..... yet I have all the "hot fixes" for SP 2 downloaded onto my add/remove programs. :blink:

Im gonna try getting the cd with sp 2 on it from a friend, or order one from MS.
