I use a Celeron Mobile 1.4 Ghz, 256 RAM notebook running Avast Prof, Spybot, Ad-aware, Windows XP firewall etc.

For the past 4-5 days, whenever I am watching movies on Windows Media Player 10, my Windows Explorer gets closed. Some movies run fine, some collapse explorer.exe. Finally, my computer displayed the message that said that its a "Data Execution Prevention" and explorer needs to close.

Is it a virus thats causing this trouble? Microsoft knowledgebase says its very much possible.

I ran Avast, but it detected nothing on my PC.

The error report says:
C:\DOCUME~1\Mittal\LOCALS~1\Temp\ba10_appcompat.txt
I went to the path listed above.....there is NO file by that name there!!!!!!!!!

I ran event viewer and the details of the error are:

Nothing shows, but we can do a few checks. First, we need to clean all the temp files/folders.

First:
Download and install the disk cleanup utility called Cleanup!
Links:
http://cleanup.stevengould.org/
http://www.hijackthislogs.com/dl/CleanUp312.exe

Cleanup! will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You may also regain a massive amount of disk space.

Here is a tutorial which describes its usage:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial93.html

Run Cleanup!

Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin.

Then reboot into normal mode to let it clean out the remaining files.

Second:
Would you please use HiJackThis to produces startup list and post it here:
1. From HJT main screen, click 'Config' button
2. Click 'Misc Tools' button
3. Under 'Generate StartupList Log' button, check both boxes
4. Click 'Generate StartupList Log' button
5. Click 'Yes' in the next dialog
6. Save the log and post a copy in this thread.
