Full Version: Programs Won't Open: HJT Log inside

Hello and Help.

* A machine got infected with a virus. User opened an infected email attachment.
* I was unable to clean it with Norton, so I downloaded Kaspersky and removed all of the infected files.
* Now, certain programs will open and then once they are fully loaded, close back down.
* Some of these are: IE Explorer, Peachtree, and Norton (after re-installing it).
* Once I open norton for configuration and hit the NEXT button, it closes.
* I was able to run Live Update directly. (Maybe)
* I cannot get into the Registry Editor, even after installing Norton's UnHookExec.inf tool.
* I get the same results in Safe Mode.
* System Restore is off.
* HJT Log below

I cannot find this specific problem in any searches, so I am looking here for help.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Hi yossarian,

Download Ad-aware SE and update it (the Globe icon, then Connect). Then click on "Perform Full System Scan". Uncheck "Search for negligible risk entries" and click on "Next". Eliminate all that Ad-aware finds.

Restart your computer after cleaning with Ad-aware and scan again. Repeat the process until no further items are found as bad.

Download SpyBot S+D.
After installing the program, click on "Search for Updates" and download what the program finds.
Click on 'Search & Destroy' and on "Check for problems". Delete what it finds.

Check your computer with the following free anti-virus/anti-trojan products.

Housecall Anti Virus Panda Anti Virus Trojan Scan Bit Defender

Post all the logs that you can create with these services.

And, here's the link to McAfee AVERT Stinger and instructions for use.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location, so you can delete it yourself.

Afterwards post a fresh log from HijackThis.
