crying.gif My pc is 7 years old and I am running Windows ME. It has been freezing up on me and taking forever to boot up. I did a system recovery and now it is even worse. I am unable to install IE6. The error message I receive is: Setup unable to install all of the components. Close all applications and run setup again. I have done that several times and still cannot install IE6.

When I tried to use Office Winword all of my documents were little boxes. There wasn't any text. What happened? Is there any way that I can get my documents back to their text form?

I am waiting for Vista to come out with its first patch before I invest in a new pc. Do I need to order that new pc now?

Please help..

It would seem that the aborted IE6 install have fried a portion of your OS. Windows ME does have a system restore facility and if you have it activated, try restoring to a point before the IE6 install.

And yes, its time to invest in a new computer. Your computer is long past its prime and ME is an unsupported product.

Thank you for your prompt response. I kind of thought that is what you were going to tell me. I have tried to restore my system at 3 different restore points and was unsuccessful. Is there by any chance any way I can recoup my documents in Word? I don't understand why they are all little boxes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,
Ro

When you say that your Word documents are all "little boxes" are you referring to the icon used, or something else?
Needhelp
No, the text has been changed into all little boxes, or so I thought. I scrolled down and found the documents are in tact. I don't know where these markings came from. The boxes don't appear here as I copied the document. I am just happy the documents are in tact and now I can copy them to my flash drive.

Thank you for your help anyway. I most certainly do appreciate it.
