Hi Guys

I have a packard bell istart 1359, memory max is 2048mb and I currently have 512mb installed.
I purchased 2 x 1gb ddr2 pc2-5300 -cl=5 -unbuffered -non ecc ddr2 - 667-1.8v -128 meg from crutial.
I have tried to install these in various combinations : one by one in one slot, also together with the original ram
but I cannot get the pc to start up I get a beep but no windows. I have tried to go on packard bell website to get bios upgrade
but the pc must be too old. someone suggested I try clearing the cmos but I'm not sure what to do.
can you help? I was also told to try using double sided ram.

Put the old ram back in and try it. It may not be compatible or faulty. XP is VERY touchy about ram.

Hello madlady

and welcome at GSFs. Hope you'll enjoy our small but nice community. Did you check over at Packard Bells Website for detailed information about your compter? Have a look at the support page at www.packardbell.com . With the information there visit your local computer shop and ask for the ram sticks that must fit then

Regards

Thankyou Guy's for your responses.
I have replaced the old original 512mg ram which works fine.
Unfortunately there is no help with this problem on the Packardbell website and the forum page just say's:
Sorry, but this board is currently unavailable. Please try again later.
I've been trying for 2 weeks now.
Packardbell nolonger appear to supply the upgrade themselves but they refer you with a link to the Crucial website to use their memory tester and purchase memory upgrade, all of which I have done. I am sure there must be others who have had the problem as me with this PC. However, Packardbell are not offering any support.
It was suggested to me that it could be the Bios, I know very little about the technicalities of computers and would'nt know what to do about that, being the case.
I think my next step is to contact Crucial to find out if it could be faulty ram or these Bio things and what steps I should take next. Any thoughts on this will be welcomed. I'll keep you posted.

Me again madlady

Tried this website of Kingston to find an answer for you, but couldn't find any information about an istart1359 model.

Same result when looking for modules at Corsairs website

Here my hint: remove one of the mounted 512 mb RAM sticks and put it in a safe container for transportation (f.e. solid plastic box) to prevent any static chargements. Visit your lokal / fav IT supplier and show him that stick. I am sure with that info on the stick he'll find 1GB Ram sticks that suit for your computer.

Hi Madlady,

Have you tried contacting Crucial? If you purchased the ram there I would hope that they could provide you with some kind of support. Can you supply us with any details about the original RAM in the machine?

Here is a small article on computer BIOS if you are interested: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/bios.htm

I hope your problem gets resolved as soon as possible.

Have a great day
