Wave.gif RescueME is a bat file that gives the user options to secure their PC, remove virus's and recover data. I hope this will help most user's rectify problems themselves with minimum fuss.

The main menu options are as follows:

Scan for Virus's (Use AntiVir, McAfee Stinger, Trend Micro Sysclean, Sophos Sav32Cli)
Install AntiVirus Sofware (AntiVir, Avast - AVG and ClamWin may be included at later date)
Install Firewall (Zone Alarm, Sygate, Kerio, SecurePoint, Softperfect, Filescab)
Install Spyware Removers (Spybot, Adaware)
Recover Deleted Files (Restoration)

All the user needs to do is follow the on screen prompts until any of the GUI's appear.

The only software included is Restoration for file recovery, download and unzip are just used by the bat file, all other software must be downloaded by the user, all the downloads are freeware (mostly limited to Home Use).

I will probably add the ability to install file recovery software at later date.

It's a 350kb download which means it's ultra portable will fit on a floppy, although you can't run it from there it would need copying to the hdd. You can run it from a usb flash drive providing you had sufficient room to extract the need files (probably min drive size of about 256mb, maybe as low as 128mb, if you had all the software stored).

This is my first release so I've more than likely goofed somewhere in the bat file, so any feedback is welcome.

As far as I'm aware the bat file should run on Win95, 98, ME, NT, 2K, XP but I've not tested it, whether the software will install on the older OS I don't know.

Some of the download links are likely to change which means at some point they will need updating, keep your eyes peeled for updated versions of RescueME.

Greetings :)

Wierd stuff...I've just ran Trojan Hunter and it flags RescueME.bat as "KillFiles" :
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen....killfiles.html
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/pest/pe...px?id=453080591

On the other hand, http://virusscan.jotti.org does not bring any such results.

Now I personally have no doubt in my mind that this is a false positive, but as for others...it might be enough for them to either have TH remove the file or do so themself manually.

Just thought I'd let you guys know ;)

Thanks for the info I'll contact Trojan Hunter about this, RescueME isn't a trojan anyone who looks at the contents of the bat file could work that out. :)

Just had a reply from the company in question this false positive will be fixed with the next ruleset update.

RescueME CD builder

RescueME now has a new companion the RescueME CD builder, which is a 1mb download.

The CD will allow you to do the following:

Install AVG, Avast or AntiVir from the CD.

Install Spybot, Spyware Blaster and Adaware - download latest updates for Spybot and Adaware

Remove Virus's with AntiVir (Run AVWIN.EXE in Windows copy from CD to HDD before using), Sophos (32bit for Windows and obviously the Dos program for Dos), Trend Mico's Sysclean (For use in Windows Only, copy from CD to HDD before using), McAfee (Run Scangui in Windows, use Scanpm.exe in Dos), F-Prot (Dos/9x only). Mwav (Windows only) is included as it's useful for advanced users how may want to manually remove infections.

Standalone Hijack removers CWS Shredder and Elite Toolbar Remover

RescueMECD contains all the necessary tools to create a bootable CD which will remove virus's from any FAT/FAT32/NTFS partition. Included in the download are mkisofs.exe and SCDWriter.

Run ResCDBuild.bat to download all necessary files (NB this download process is only recommended for people with broadband connections, the end process will create a CD approx 180mb. Download.exe doesn't support resume, if your on dialup manually download the files you need), at the end of the download process it will build the ISO image for you, all you have to do then is burn the CD image file with SmallCDWriter (provided).

Hi, I've been setting up RescueMe and noticed a small typo. When choosing to install the Softperfect firewall, menu options 1 and 2 refer to Sygate, not Softperfect. Just thought you'd want to know.

Haven't had a chance to use RescueMe yet, but it looks great.

Cheers!
