Full Version: Tux Paint - kids free drawing program

Just something for that young at heart to play with.....

Tux Paint is an easy-to-use drawing program, designed for children ages 3 and up. It offers a simple interface, with large, colorful buttons and sound effects. Even though it is designed for kids, the program is not limited to simple paint operations, but includes a good array of features like paint effects (rainbow, fading, sparkles etc.), auto-fill, text insertion, shapes, image gallery, image stamps and more. The program can either run in normal windowed mode, or full screen. Tux Paint is easy enough to be used by young children, yet provides enough features to keep them using it as they grow older.

Tux Paint is completely free software, released as “Open Source” software, under the provisions of the GNU General Public License (GPL). This means you may download it and install it on as many machines as you wish, copy it for friends and family, and give it to your local schools. In fact, we encourage this!

Tux Paint runs on most systems, but check the Requirements if you're unsure whether your system can support it.

How Can It Be Free?

Tux Paint is developed by volunteers around the world. We work on it as a labor of love, with the hopes that people will find it useful, and in turn share it with their own friends and family. (Specifically, Tux Paint is Free/Libre software, distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License.)

QUOTE
From: Bill Kendrick - 2006-12-13 - 00:55

My wife has been helping me develop a new automated tool that I think maybe even more effective, at least for some forms of testing. It's going to take a while before it works properly with Tux Paint, but in the meantime,
here are some screenshots:

I think it should be useful for testing numerous other educational apps, as well. Wish us luck!

Tux Typing 2 - v.1.5.15 - first release since 2004!

"Tux Typing development is active again with the first SF.net release in over three years.
The "official" home page (which is very rudimentary so far) is at: http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org.
(The source repository is now housed at the Alioth/Debian Subversion site.)

TuxType 1.5.15 has some user-visible upgrades, but mainly represents internal reworking to properly support UTF-8/Unicode. The first Indic language theme, Malayalam, is included. It should now be possible to add themes to support all of the world's major languages.

The Downloads page has the source code for TuxType 1.5.15 in a *tar.gz archive file, as well as an executable installer file for Windows. For users of Debian and its derivatives (e.g. Ubuntu), this version is now in Debian's "Sid/Unstable" branch. I hope to have rpm and deb packages available here in the near future.

Note - there is no current build of TuxTyping for MacOSX! If you have a Mac and would like to get involved, please contact tuxmath-devel@sourceforge.net "

Announcing Tux Paint 0.9.19
From the Press Release:
"As usual, the Tux Paint team keeps both the youngest end-users and their security-minded parents, teachers and computer lab administrators in mind. Correcting an issue in the last release, Mac users no longer need to run Tux Paint in Administrator mode the first time for it to run properly. A new configuration option allows users to decide whether or not the computer's screensaver should be disabled while Tux Paint is running. This latest release of Tux Paint also corrects a number of issues introduced in the previous version, including bugs that could cause crashes and freezes on both Windows and Mac OS X.

Tux Paint, renowned for its multi-lingual capabilities, continues to be translated into new languages, while other translations are corrected or expanded upon. New in this version: Azerbaijani, Khmer, Macedonian, Occitan and Zapoteco. Australian and Canadian variants of English have also been introduced."
