Hail, almighty ones. worthy.gif

I have a problem which may or may not be virus-related.

Lately a couple of programs I've tried to install have faltered in mid installation with an error message along the lines of "MSIEXEC.EXE HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM & NEEDS TO CLOSE".

I nuked my system a couple of days ago with AdAware & Spybot Search & Destroy but the error still appears. Never used to happen. Maybe a file was eaten during a previous eradication. Is there a simple fix for this?

Thanks Chachazz.

The page advises I re-install windows installer, but there is no version supplied for Windows XP (my system) only NT & 2000.

As they say in my country, this means I'm rooted doesn't it?

Windows Installer 3.1 Download for XP:

Hope this does the trick.

OK thanks - I've saved to my desktop.

In step 2, it asks me to rename the installer files. Are you able to translate this advice for XP? There are only options for 95, 98, NT & ME. Rebooting in safe mode (step 3) I'm fine to do. Thanks again!
