My previous camera was recognized by win xp as a mass storage device, meaning i could transfer files in both directions (PC <> camera)

My new camera is recognised as a plain camera in windows xp meaning it uses that stupid "Scanner Camera wizard". allowing me only to transfer my pcitures from my camera to PC. I cannot copy files (pictures, even music files) to the flash card anymore. :furious:

How to disable the "Scanner and Camera" detection and change it to the normal "Mass Storage Device"

thnx for your help

Scanner and Camera Wizard problems

Windows XP Service Pack 2 has done strange things to my camera and scanner wizard. Help!

I have Windows XP and recently installed Service Pack 2. All is well apart from the fact that when I connect my camcorder, a Sony DCRTRV22e and my digital camera, an Olympus D-380, to my PC via USB, I no longer have the option of the Scanner and Camera Wizard that used to open automatically. I can transfer the pictures manually to another folder using Windows Explorer, but it’s far too fiddly. Can you help?

This sounds like a problem with your autoplay settings. One fix some people have found that works is to remove RealPlayer from their system. If this doesn’t work, or you don’t have RealPlayer installed, then you need the Microsoft Autoplay Repair Wizard. You can download it from here then perform a searchfor autoplay to find it. Once downloaded to your hard drive, plug in your camera and camcorder so they’re detected as drives in Windows and run the wizard

Me again

I'm not sure if it will help ya, but had a phonecall with a profesional photographer which is a friend of mine. He told me that he had faced similar problems like yours. He used San Disk SD cards for one of his Nikon digi cams and tried to use the same card in an Canon Powershot when he ran out of memory space. The Canon didn't want to recognize that SD card. Later when being at home his XP installation was "mad" bout that card in this Canon cam too. Swapping back into the Nikon and everything was fine.

He visited his fav photoshop asking the supporters there. One of them confirmed problems with SD cards when using one series in different cams. He finally bought a SD card from Panasonic which works in his Nikon AND Canon now ;)
