From the Koma-Mail forum:

"If you want to use Koma-Mail on a pen-drive please make a backup to your harddrive in a regular interval (just copy the KM-Folder). Because there are a lot of possible errors which can harm your database, like pluging off your stick without removing your drive "safely". Also if you forget to close KM before disconnecting it, your database can be destroyed.

The last and most important problem appears when the flash-storage itself breaks down. In the worst case there is no way to access your mails after that."
