Questions?

What have you changed or added to your system from the last time it was working such as progarms etc?

Also what Operating System are you using?

Also are you getting any Error codes?

All it might be is that device drivers are missing?

Also might check here:

Grand Dad, I have Windows Milennium. An HP pc. When I go into My Computer, Device Manager and scroll down to SCSI Controllers there is a yellow exclamation point next to HP EPST Parallel SCSI Adapter. There isn't any error message. When I go into My Computer, System Properties, Hardware Profiles it has the Original Configuration. When I attempt to use the scanner I get the error message, "scanner could not be initialized, (scanner not found)". I have removed children's games and installed AOL's Virus Scan and Firewall. I have attempted to check the sites you posted and they were not of any help. I have also been on the HP website and that website advised to go to Microsoft's support web site and see documentation article 310126, which I could not find. Any help at all will be most appreciated. Have a Great Father's Day!!

OK:

You are talking about 2 different things here:

USB in Device Manager has a yellow exclamation marK?

Device Manager and scroll down to SCSI Controllers there is a yellow exclamation point next to HP EPST Parallel SCSI Adapter. There isn't any error message.

You might have to reinstall the driver for that SCSI device after checking the correct parity settings of your scanner, then SCSI adapter and finally which settings are made at the scanner....

Also what make and model Scanner are you using?

The infomation I posted was for USB not SCSI so we need to know if you are working with USB or SCSI? As they are 2 different things.

Oh Wow.............. HP Scanjet 5100C Scanner. Sorry, I did not scroll down far enough in Device Manager. In Universal Serial Bus Controllers there are 2 listings. Standard Universal PCI to USB Host Controller and USB Root Hub. They are OK. No yellow or red exclamation marks. So why isn't USB working???

Sorry Grand Dad, Why isn't scanner initialized and cannot be found. Seems USB is OK. I am so confused.......... Like you couldn't tell. PC and Scanner are 6 years old. Hoping to make due for at least another 8 months, til Vista comes out.

Hi

Have you tried reloading the Drivers for the Scanner?

Might look at this:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/famiDoc...ocname=bps03992

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...ocname=bps05104

This might not help much as it's for Win 98.But might give info on somethings to look at.

We willl see what others have to say about the problem. But as a side note its could be faulty controller board not allowing it to work via USB. You might try hooking it up to Parallel and see if it works.
