Hey guys can i ask. Why does a computer, stop loading on the Welcome screen if there is a CD in the drive. Then if you remove the CD from the computer you cannot still select a profile, then you have to reboot the computer. Why is this? Also I have had to boot the computer mutlipule times after removing the disc to get past the Welcome screen. (XP)

Morning Connor

depends on if the CD/DVD you've left in your computer

1. is bootable or
2. if there are other information which tried to get loaded (f.e. device driver)
3. has scratches on the surface

For 1.
Usually the media should boot. If it doesn't you should check the media (s. 3.) or if other media are working wi´th your optical drive

For 2.
The OS has noticed "bootable" information (sys, inf files) but can't load em up. It'll try it again and again til it stucks

For 3.
You should be a bit carefully with ya media mate tease.gif ;)

Thanks Udo. What if none of these three apply? If my computer was fine one time booting with a CD in the drive and now it is not. With the same CD this is. Could it be a hardware change or anything else?

Howdy Connor hello.gif

If you can make sure that the mentioned CD ROM works in other CD drives perfectly, then I would give a new CD/DVD ROM drive a chance.

Take care mate
