Hi there,

When I play videos on my computer there are dots on the screen - not with all video programs but then again it is not consistently with certain programs either. I use windows media player, powerdvd 6, dvd x player and media player classic and all of them, on different files, have these dots.

These dots move around to be on areas of the same shade i.e same brightness.

I have re-installed windows and still this problem persists - however when I play games and videos play in these games there are no dots. I have run direct X tests and they have all come back fine with no dots or artifacts.

Has anybody heard of this before? Could it be an overheating problem with my graphics card?

Oh yeah and its not the actual videos as it happens with all videos and they play fine on my divx player with no dots.

Have just run artifact tester and there are no artifacts detected too...

Thanks for anybody's help!

this problem occurs with all videos but not all the time - a video can play in windows media player with no dots and then if I play the same video in powerdvd there are dots but it is not consistent at all. When I run 3dmark the dots are present on the graphics all the time.
I have updated the drivers for the video card, checked that the waterblock is on the GPU properly and changed the resolution to no avail...

Hi ron

first a question as start-up: is it the same computer you're asking about CMOS problems? Cause that mentioned computer (Belarc Advisor report) has an onboard graphics adapter and such onboard solutions won't overheat so easily. This here tells me we're not talking bout the same computer:

cause the box with the CMOS problem had an Intel onboard graphics adapter where a water cooling system doesn't make any sense.

Please give us/me more details about the computer having this graphic problems.

What kind of videos are you talking about? Short clips (up to 5 min. max) or are you talking about complete original movies on CD/DVD?

Might be that you're running an older or a buggy release of DivX on your computer. Make sure you have the latest release of DivX.

This is a different Pc.

About the CMOS error Everythings fine with HDD and internal connections seems perfect.

I use a CR2032 button cell.
Can there be a problem in the cell socket.

Hey,

All files including divx, mpegs and wmv's used to do the same thing from full length divx's to short 5 minute mpegs. I have upgraded DiVX to the latest version and have upgraded all the video drivers.

Dont worry about it I will just use winamp for everything. Everythings fine in winamp.
Moreover I reinstalled WIN XP and media player plays fine too.

So no problems regarding dots but CMOS troubles remain.

Greetings
Ron
