Hi all! flowerz.gif Since there are more and more people interested to do graphics with Bryce 3D
I thought of starting a thread on Bryce, and have a place where we can exchange info and tips
about the graphics we create with that amazing application. This will be a thread for beginners and
intermediates mainly. Useful links on tutorials, objects and interesting online Bryce free activities
are more than welcome.

Naturally, Bryce experts are free to come especially if they are ready to share their knowledge
and help the new users get more acquainted with the program, You are free to post
creations but I ask that you give a few tips on how you did the image and do not post
images that exceed 500x500 pixels. Not all people have fast connections and it will
be nice if we keep that in mind.

Regards,

Hi Uguel

here's something I did in Bryce [ sorry if it's a bit big and too dark] :

Just made a couple of torus shapes around a sphere, and then made another sphere around those shapes, and zoomed into the inside of that large sphere. I moved things around until I found some nice viewpoints and made a bunch of renders. I turned off all the sky & cloud effects and used a glass material I think.

An abstract 3d tutorial like this will show you how to do something similar - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/2209652/ or http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/23028560/

Hey Uguel, very nice text and good links.
That's cool Moore, some of those abstract renders are great.

You can find some good tutorials over at Pixel2life, http://www.pixel2life.com/tutorials/bryce/
I've been trying some combinations of making my own materials and transparent frames.
http://www.angelfire.com/journal/Lynxspiri.../Materials.html

Theses are kind of basic but fun examples:

A couple of combinations of the above styles.

@ Moore

Wow that is a very classy graphic that you have here! It looks professional to me.
Thanks a lot for all the links. I bookmarked all of them and will start doing
some of them this week. I might have questions though. But for now I am still explo-
ring the program capabilities and my own too!
Uguel
@ Odidio

Excellent Odidio! You are also very good with Bryce, you don't appear
to be new at this although you have got Bryce since just a couple of weeks.
Thanks a lot for the links I bookmarked them too. oh! and whenever you have the time
could you have a look at your bookmarks and see if you can find an easy animation
for beginners. honeybee.gif

---------------------------------------------------------

Here is an easy tutorial I did "Galactic Background" (see post 2)
I edited in Paint Shop after, I made 3 copies of them, tilted them,
made the one in the middle black and white and finally I pasted them
over a white background and saved the image as a .JPG. Next time
I will paste them on a transparent background and save them as
a .png so the background will remain transparent!

odidio
Very nice Uguel.

I started off with this tutorial to get animated clouds in Bryce. I didn't do the flash part though, I saved the .avi movie and edited it in Animation Shop for the frames I needed.
There is a bit easier way but I can't find the link to it right now.

I haven't gotten too far yet with the animations so when I find some good links I will post then. friends.gif
Uguel
Well, thanks for the link! :)

I found a nice little program, CITY GENERATOR 1.2, to go along with Bryce. It will generate images that simulate buildings. You can take a screen shot and place that in your favorite paint program ( the best way ) or it will generate the .bmp image to it's own directory.

People get a little freaked by this one at first, it has no installer so you just run the .exe. When it pops up it will turn your screen resolution to 800x600 and the screen will be filled with different sized greyscaled squares and circles.

The controls are very simple:

CONTROLS:

F = switch between fullscreen and window
(esc) = exit City Generator
(down) = create city
(space) = save city

I prefere to hit the 'F' key then take a screen shot with 'Print Screen', paste it in a paint prog and save as a .bmp. Then you jusy edit a terrain and load the image in.

It's the same as creating 3D text using a .bmp image like here except you start with a terrain instead of the Symmetrical Lattice.

You can get City Generator at download.com .

odidio
Here's a couple using City Generator,

The ship is made with a couple of .dxf files combined together and made with Spiralizer.

I didn't do the robots quite right I'm just starting with those, they are originally by Anders Lejczak and you can get them free at www.colacola.se.

ciao.gif
Uguel
Wow! I really like the second one you made!

Odidio:

I went to the site but could not find the robots. All I see is are orange "cliche" letters
if I click on them, I keep getting directed to a commercial website. Any idea? uhm.gif

-------------------------------------------------

Here's an easy one I did by myself, I mean no tutorial mwah.gif

odidio
Thanks, I think I could spend all my time in this program, LOL.

Here is the link to the robots. Go up to renders and downloads while your there, lots of nice things.
There's parametric mapping you are supposed to do with the robot model ( I have some reading to do ).

I don't see your image :( .

Wow, all this Bryce work is truly awesome - I need to take 'driving lessons' to handle the Bryce controls; LOL

Hey Chacazz, I would recomend that you start with this one 'Myst & Vapour on Seascape' (7th link in post #2)
It is quite simple for beginners and if you need explanations or help I will be able to help you on that one for
I already did it. honeybee.gif

Hey Odidio, I will need your help on that one please.... :(

animated tutorial

All things went well until step 12. "Move the slider until the time display shows 2 seconds."
but if you look carefully he has his time displayed to 00:00:04.00 instead of 00:00:02.00
so my guess is that he just added 2 seconds more to the 00:00:02.00 he asked in step 10.
Is that right? :rulez: Also, once you arrived in the main window of the program did you see the sign +
at the bottom for it did not appear on my side? uhm.gif

Thanks!

odidio
I've noticed a couple of things there that are misleading or unclear there.

Yes, he's adding 2 sec and the time should read 04.00.

When he says to return to the main screen and move the slider to 4 sec it's already there, so I hit rewind ( first key frame ) then move it and set the key frame. It seems if I just click the + to set it after returning the animation doesn't turn out the same.

The + sign should be right next to the 'Key' symbol at the bottom.

Uguel
Thanks Odidio for clarifying this! I spent about 2 hours trying to figure out other ways around
but I couldn't find anything really good so I ended up with a buggy animation instead. The clouds did not
flow properly. So next time I will try the one you did in the tutorial section. flowerz.gif

And....although it seems a very good tutorial at first, especially when looking at the results,
it was rather misleading I'm afraid... because what he wrote is different from what we have
in the screenshots. For instance, in step 3 he recommends to choose the camera view but in
the screenshot in step 5 we have " Director" instead of camera. so I was wondering then if
we should choose the "camera view" or the "Director" instead. You will notice that he mentions
that this is his first tutorial (top of the page) so it might be due to lack of experience.
And maybe he doesn't have anyone to test his tutorials. Nevertheless, I wrote to him and
reported these little inacuracies for him to be able to do the proper rectification. honeybee.gif

Oh, and finally, I found a way to have the "+" back. See the li'l circle at the bottom right?
well, this is the one you have to click on to toggle with the animation bar. So whenever
the "+" is not showing you simply click on it and the full animation bar will appear after.

Uguel
Ok, here are the same planets as on page 1 but on a transparent background....
Uguel
This one took 17 hours to render with normal settings, I estimate that the ultra-fine settings would
take at least 24 hours or maybe more. The bigger the picture, the more time it takes to render
especially if you have many objects on it. You can't have many processes running on your computer when
rendering big images for it takes a lot of ressources. The best is to render your image when you
do not need to work on your computer. I uploaded at Flickr because it is a bit heavy.

odidio
Wow, it took a long time but worth it, that's fantastic.

Chachazz
Magnifique! flowerz.gif
Uguel
Hey, thanks folks! I am currently working on a desert scene now.... It will take much less time to render, LOL
Uguel
I did this one today. honeybee.gif
odidio
Very nice Uguel, great clouds.

:furious: fire.gif
Uguel
thanx Odidio! and if you click on the picture it will become bigger and you can see a li'l tiny-weeny cowboy standing on the mountain. The sky was a picture I imported in Bryce, I stuck it on a lattice and adjusted the settings after. I added the mountainin the end. Once I was over with Bryce, I opened the picture in Photoshop (it can be done in PSP too) and I added a new layer and added more colour in the sky. I drew the cowboy's figure in Photoshop too. The original sky was blue only.

Hey, nice Halloween picture!!! Done in Bryce right?
Chachazz
Terrific work Uguel & Odidio
Uguel
hey, thanx Chachazz!!!
....still have lots to learn angel.gif
Uguel
My version of Bryce (5.5) came with DAZ, it is not bad but it is very limited;
there aren't lots of poses or add-ons...well, I mean compared
to Poser. But is good trying and if you like it a lot the chances are that you
will like Poser even more. A friend of mine has it and she said
that she enjoys the program a lot. She shows me the work she did
with Poser and it is real nice!!!
odidio

Yea, I found the skeleton for free somewhere along the way, it only has the one pose though that you can't manipulate.
The text is Paint shop with a plugin.

I still have Poser waiting in my account, a large dl.

:)

I seen the cowboy up there at first, he's a long way up there, LOL.
Uguel
I seen the cowboy up there at first, he's a long way up there, rofl6.gif.

he has an Australian's horse!
... there's a kind of Aussie's horse that can climb mountains very easily
but I don't remember the name... uhm.gif
Here's one I did yesterday...the chopper was an object I downloaded
from the links I gave today in the Bryce Ressourses thread honeybee.gif
The image is big, I uploaded it at Image Shack....

Hey that's cool.

I tried a broken glass tutorial, not that hard, gets you used to grouping/negative/positive.............etc.

Wow, this is excellent Odidio! Not only you did it well but
you got a very nice light effect in it. I will try that tutorial too.
If I understand well, your glass was a positive and the bit that dropped
was set to negative, wasn'it?

The hole in the glass is a rock set to negative, but to get the piece back you duplicate the whole thing and set the rock to intersect. uhm.gif
Uguel
I see, thanks!!! honeybee.gif
Uguel
Oh and I forgot to say that you have a cool ani here Odidio! it is not too "obvious" to do animations in Bryce.
Here's one I did lately. honeybee.gif
odidio
Looking good Uguel. The lightning must be added later right ?

I was playing with trying to get the look of a meteor or something reentering the atmosphere and striking water, still needs some work.

:)
Uguel
Good one Odidio, I like the smoke effect and all the fragments around!

Looking good Uguel. The lightning must be added later right ?

Right, everything was done in Bryce but the lightning was done in Photoshop.
Uguel
Run James, run!

I am learning how to export characters from Poser to Bryce! :bikers:
odidio
Very nice Uguel, keep em coming.
Uguel
Hey, thanx Odidio!!!
Uguel
Hmmm... nothing to write home but I am pretty much satisfied with it! angel.gif

Uguel
I finally found out a way to position the mountains behind the water. LOL

Uguel
I did this yesterday as I was trying the new skies that come with version 6.

Chachazz
Ohhhh, click on thumbnails - those are awesome Uguel :)
Uguel
Thanks Chachazz! friends.gif

Here's a simple one. A still life textured with a silver brown map + an HDRI image effect. in it.
Oh, if someone sees a tutorial on how to model a spoon, just let me know.
I'd like to add a spoon in the image! honeybee.gif

odidio
That HDRI image effect is really cool.
