In this tutorial we will learn :
* how to create a mountain,
* changing the material on the mountain;
* apply a different sea,
* apply a different sky;
1. Start Bryce and set your document to Director's view by clicking
on the first arrow on the left just next to your workplace

2. Go to the Tools Menu and click on "Create Terrain" ; we will create a mountain

You will see a red shape appearing in your workarea
There are several small black squares covering the shape and
your cursor changes when you place it over one of them.
3. Find the one labelled Y and drag to the right to increase the height of your mountain.
Drag until you have something that looks like this....

4. Click on your mountain and drag it down so that its square base disappears.

5. Click on the plane at the base of your picture to select it.
We are going to change it to something more interesting than plain grey.

6. Click on Edit and then click on the little arrow beside Edit.
This can be a bit tricky - you want the pop up window to stay on the screen
you must click only one time, no double-click!!!

The Material Lab will open...click on the drop-downmenu to open and browse
the Materials folders....

1. Select 'Waters and Liquids'
2. Select one of the Materials
3. Click the tick

Now we will change the terrain Material
7. Click on your terrain to select it then go to the Tools Menu and click on the little arrow beside Edit.
Remember, you must click only one time, only!
..The Material Lab will open.......
1. Select 'Terrains'
2. Select one of the Materials
3. Click the tick
8. Back in your workarea, click the Render button which is the biggest gray ball on your left.

Rendering can take a long time depending on the power of your PC.
this what I got!

9. Now for a different sky - same deal as with the Edit arrow;
you start by clicking "Sky and Fog" and again on the little arrow (one click only!)
the sky lab menu will appear, choose the sky you want to be displayed in your picture
and click on the tick to accept the change.

10. Once back in your workplace area, click on the big gray ball to render.
Notice that I also added a pterosaur after. I will show you how to import
a new material in Bryce in my next tutorial so that you can add a bird, an animal or an object.
I increased the intensity of the colours in Paint Shop after I was done but this can also
be done with Photofiltre which is a good (and free!) graphic program.

Remember that....
...You can also change the material on the mountain too!
For that you simply click on the mountain to select it and then you
return to the "Edit" options to open the Material Lab. Find the
Terrains materials and choose a material from there and simply
render again!
When you are done with your image, *save it as a .br5
file and then you can export it as a .BMP, PSD, or JPEG file
to display it.
Tip
*It is always good to keep a .br5 copy in your Bryce
folder in case you want to make change in the future!
This completes our lesson!
