Sun ODF Plug-in for Microsoft Word now available!
Microsoft Word users now can easily import and export to the OpenDocument Format.(ie: OpenOffice & StarOffice, etc.)
" The StarOffice 8 Conversion Technology Preview, a plug-in for Microsoft Word 2003 that allows users of Microsoft Word 2003 to read, edit and save to the OpenDocument Format (ODF) is now available.
This initial plug-in application will support the conversion of text documents (.doc/.odt) only and full support of spreadsheet and presentation documents will be available in the final version, expected in April. The converter is easy to setup and use, the conversion happens transparently and the additional memory footprint is minimal. Microsoft Word users now can have seamless two-way conversion of Microsoft Word's documents to and from ODF."

The availability of the source code enables customization, ports to different platforms, deeper integration options and localization for any language.

An Add-in to Microsoft Word XP/2003/2007 to allow opening and saving OpenDocument format (ODF) files.(ie: OpenOffice.org/Star Office, etc.)
The converter is based on XSL transformations between two XML formats, along with some pre- and post-processing to manage the packaging (zip / unzip), schema incompatibility processings and the integration into Microsoft Word. We chose to use an Open Source development model that allows developers from all around the world to participate & contribute to the project.
Along with the Add-in for Microsoft Word, a command line translator that allows doing batch conversions. This translator could also be run on the server side for certain scenarios.
