Vista should be used with your environment as usual. Due to the circumstance that our team isn't complete on Vista I only can assume what's the reason. First I would check the settings of all Security related elements which came with Vista and disable them for a test.

Can you give us some more details please about that "messanger" and "other software"... perhaps that info can help us to find answers for you, kay?

Thanks for the advice, i have disabled all firewalls and anti virus programmes, this has made no differance, the other software that will not work is Aol9.Vr it keeps stateing that i have no means of connection. i have tried there help line but still no joy, i am beginning to wonder if it is a problem with Windows Vista, and not the router settings : since installing Vista for no reason the icons on desktop keep vanishing,

Might want to look here:

:furious: Went into the netgear settings all settings appear to be correct, but could not find any drivers for the router, have also looked at the settings in my local area network and noticed ipv4 states connected to internet, but ipv6 which Vista uses states Limited, i have not got a clue what these settings are, could even be that my network adaptor does not support ipv6, i will carry on pulling my hair out and look for more information on this.

Have a look here and check the box to see what they have.

Pretty long list of their Routers both Wired and Wireless some of which they have disconinued upgrades for.

PS. You are not the only one having Compatibility issues with Vista and Networking. Just Google "Vista Compatibility Issues" and see whats going on out there. In the end you might have to contact NetGear support and see what they say as there appears to be no quick fixes.

Thanks for the support, i have contacted Netgear, and the router settings are ok, it appears that i have to contact microsoft because it is a security issue regarding the ipv6 settings, i will let you know the outcome of this. but there is lots of issues with Vista even the retailers have no answers?

Thanks again
