Full Version: Odd software conflict

I'm currently trying out Defensewall and have tried both 1.73 and 1.74. I realize that there are sandbox incompatibilities that require profiles that only Ilya can make, but what perplexes me the most is a software incompatibility it's having with a program it deems trustworthy.

When playing Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst, the controls lock up every 30-60 seconds or so, which causes me to lose control of my character for roughly 5 seconds each time. When this happens, the music freezes as well.

The above issue occurs whether Defensewall is enabled, disabled or closed. The only way to correct it is by completely uninstalling Defensewall.

PSO Blue Burst uses nProtect GameGuard, so perhaps it and Defensewall aren't getting along?

I've also experienced random freezes in Mozilla Firefox 2.0 while running it in Untrusted mode. There is no BSOD, just a completely frozen Mozilla image. This has happened to me twice during the brief time I had DefenseWall installed, but has never happened before. I've also experienced slow down if I had too many tabs open at the same time.

Since I use Zone Alarm Pro, I also performed the above tests with Zone Alarm open and closed.

These issues are frustrating because Defensewall doesn't appear to create logs for trusted software. I either have to tolerate the freezing or do without Defensewall entirely.

Ilya, do you have any ideas here?

Here's my current setup:

OS: Windows XP SP2
CPU: Athlon 3200+
Memory: 1 gigabyte
Firewall: Zone Alarm Pro 7.0.302.000
Antivirus: Avira AntiVir
Antispyware: Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyware Blaster

Have no idea what could be wrong. Please, mail me to support [at] softsphere [dot] com, and I'l send you latest DefenseWall's build. If this won't helps- compatibility issue work will be continued.

I'd welcome testing the beta, but my trial period may be up. I uninstalled DefenseWall several weeks ago. Heh, I actually started writing my bug report when I still had it installed, but I had a combination of things happen recently, so I put it off.

I also have my doubts that the current beta would fix the Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst problem, since this may be the first you've heard of it. Even if I boot into Windows without loading DefenseWall, Phantasy Star freezes every minute. Does DefenseWall load up a driver with Windows or something? I just can't understand how it would interfere with PSO:BB when it's not even running.

No problem. Just mail me and I'll send you 2-mounth time-limited registration key. This will be more then enough for following:

1. If you will be active as beta-tester with bug reports and reasonable suggestions, you will receive your 100-years registration.

2. If you won't be active- anyway, your problem will be solved and you will be able using DefenseWall with GameGuard without problems.

So, both of possibilities are not really bad as I believe! :) Mail me!

Ok, email sent.

If Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst still freezes with the current build, I'll be sure to test DefenseWall with my internet games and software before uninstalling it again. If there are any issues I'll send you the logs.

Whether or not you figure out a solution, I appreciate your support, which is excellent. You're one of the most motivated software programmers I've ever seen.

Thanks! Catch my e-mail and be ready for hard work cooperation!

Unfortunately Ilya, the freezing still occurs in beta 2.0 Beta 5. PSO:BB freezes every 5-10 seconds even with DefenseWall disabled.

On a slightly different subject, how do you feel about online gaming? With these games not only exposing themselves to the internet, but also set up to automatically download player created content (Unreal Tournament for example), do you feel that there's enough reason to run them untrusted?
Ilya Rabinovich
1. OK, got it. Send you test drivers set.
2. To tell the truth- I don't know.
Ilya Rabinovich
This is my official responce.

According my investigation with C&C- Tiberium Wars that have same hang problems with DefenseWall, it have been discovered that it is pure game protection issue. I was able to bypass it with other functions calls and this improved version will be released with Beta 7.

P.S. If you have more game compatibility issues- post it, I like strategy and shooting games! :)
