Hi.
As topic. SQL launches at Windows startup and it has never done that before! I don't even know what it is. So, anyone knows what the problem is? Is it safe to remove it from autostart in msconfig?

Hi dakota72

what kinda system are you running? Intel or AMD based? Did you install all the latest recommended patches, fixes and hotfixes?

I'm running a Intel based system with Windows Xp Sp2. I haven't installed any patches or hotfixes, this just started to show up. Is SQL an important process?

Howdy dakota hello.gif

well some more questions. Did you ever try to install MS SQL or a related SQL software on your computer?

You can check this via control panel --> Add/Remove Software if there's an entry.

Please have a check at the taskmanager --> processes (availale via CRTL + Shift + ESC too) if there's a SQL process running.

But something you should think about is to patch and fix your XP system immediately.

Bye 4 now

Nope, I have never installed SQL or related SQL software, I have never even heard of it. The strange thing is that I found an entry in control panel --> Add/Remove Software and there's also a running process in Taskmanager. This is very strange.

One other thing, what do you mean by patching XP? (I have Automatic Updates from Microsoft if that's what you mean)

Cheers ciao.gif

Me again dakota

That was exactely what I meant  . So your system is up-2-date related to the hotfixes, patches etc.

Could you please post a screencopy of both entries (one from the taskmanager, and another one from add/remove software). IF you are absolutely sure that you never did install any SQL stuff nor running such programs you can uninstall that programs or shut down all the SQL services that suits.

Shuting down services

Please be very careful when shuting down any services. All hints at your own risk

Therefore please locate that service(s) at SETTINGS --> CONTROL PANEL --> COMPUTER ADMINISTRATION --> SERVICES.

In that column called STATUS have a right mouse click at that SQL service(s) you wanna shut down and have a look at PROPERTIES.

Choose the option DEAKTIVED from starttype.

Please repeat the same entry for AUTOSTART TYPE

Oki doki, lets try an uninstall first man, before messing at the services, kay ;)?
