While playing chess at Yahoo online games, I was repeatedly threatened by a group of users who said they will infect my computer.

Is that possible? I mean if one play online in a java system like Yahoo Game, could be infected by malware?

I use Norton, chi-squared anti-malware and firewall protection.

How prevent the attacks?

Thanks,
Nebon
Java is exploitable and security holes can be found in it, however these users would have to infect the java applet you are using online, and with the site being controlled by Yahoo those chances are slim. If they wanted to target just you personally they would need to know your IP address which they could not just magically conjure out of thin air and they could not get hold of it with you playing this online game. Another way they could do it is with a backdoor Trojan, and thats means they would need you to download it to your machine (either a stealth install or willingly), which I doubt you would follow any link they send you.

Personally I think the claims these users are making are lies and it would take an awful lot of effort to try and hack your computer. If I was in your situation I would not worry at all.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.
