Puppy Linux
Blindingly fast, incredibly powerful, amazingly tiny...

Puppy Linux, started by Barry Kauler, is a small (28-72M), fully featured Linux distribution. Mission Statement:
  • Puppy will easily install to USB, Zip or hard drive media.
  • Booting from CD, Puppy will load totally into RAM so that the CD drive is then free for other purposes.
  • Booting from CD, Puppy can save everything back to the CD, no need for a hard drive.
  • Booting from USB, Puppy will greatly minimise writes, to extend the life of Flash devices indefinitely.
  • Puppy will be extremely friendly for Linux newbies.
  • Puppy will boot up and run extraordinarily fast.
  • Puppy will have all the applications needed for daily use.
  • Puppy will just work, no hassles.
  • Puppy will breathe new life into old PCs

Enjoy the speed of Puppy as a live CD, or better still, as multi-session CD or DVD in your CD/DVD writer. Puppy Linux is described as AMAZING in the Ubuntu Forums.

"Puppy Linux is a superb, light-weight, fast and versatile Linux distribution with a great selection of applications, graphical system administration utilities and all sorts of unique features not readily available elsewhere. A great choice not only for older computers, but also for those who dislike the bloat of most modern distributions."

Puplets
One of the great things about Puppy is how easy it is to use it as a base for your very own distro. You can install your own programs setup the themes and preferences just the way you like them then use the Remaster option to bundle it all into your very own cd iso. Imagine that, boot from your own live CD and have everything set just how you like it in less than a minute. Many people choose to share their remasters for the benefit of others, we call these versions, puplets.
