i had a big problem with my audio on this 2 year old
Dell desktop with a celeron processor. to try and
fix this, i inserted 1G of fresh RAM and when that didn't
work, i ran a diagnostic on my hard drive disc. when that
came up clean, i decided to just reformat my computer.
after the reformat (2 weeks ago) the sound was playing smooth
again and was not choppy at all. recently however, the sound
has been getting more and more choppy with each day.
even the greeting wav. to windows XP is all choppy.
i have no clue what is wrong here, there were a few times
where my CPU usage was 90-100% while these lags in audio
were happening, but i haven't been checking for a consistent
pattern.
can anyone help me?

Hi Dramamine
I presume that once you formated your drive you then went on to install all of the Microsoft updates ? If not you should have had and if the fault is still there it would sound as if your install has failed in some way and it may be best to reformat again.

no i have everything updated. and my roommate is a computer science major and we both oversaw the reformatting and cleaning of this computer so i think all the basics are in check. we're just both kind of puzzled here...

The sound will lag if the CPU usage was 90-100%. If this keeps happening you will have to take note in the task manger of what is causing that CPU usage and then remove it and see how that goes. I suspect it's something simple so do let us know
