Full Version: Trying to get sphere to move on ribbon path

I have a whole scene set in Bryce 6 with 8 geometry solids and wish to have them slide along a ribbon path, which acccording to the book I have allows one to 'disengage' the original object the path was created with and assign a new object to then trace along the same ribbon path with no changes in the path itself.

I had a sphere selected and created the ribon path and adjusted the ribbon path to where I wanted the objects to fly and then go through an object and then popup from the ground plane at the ribbon's end. Now as I try to move the sphere along the path, the sphere seems to veer off from the path from the very beginning. uhm.gif

While not 'new' to Bryce, it has been a loooong time since I've done anything more than render scenes and do a little movement here and there.

This project calls for the 8 'holy' geometry objects to fly around a ribbon path in the air, along the terrain edge and then pass through the forehead of a Head object from Poser that is 'buried' 1/2 underneath the ground plane...the sphere would then pop up after all the other objects are moved into new positions as the sphere enters the "third eye' of the forehead where a 1.5 second flash would occur....I would move the remaining seven objects durring that 1.5 second time span thus leaving room at the end of the line for it to pop up from underneath. Then the tetrahydron would be placed onto the ribbon path and the process hopefully repeated with all 8 objects.

Any help or hints at all would be appreciated. flowerz.gif worthy.gif

Thank You.

Hi Bob,

For an object to follow a path it is just a need to make the path the parent of the object, select constrain to path, then set the key_frames.

Simple example:

I have added a default path and sphere into a new scene:

I then select the sphere and set the path as parent, also set as "Constrain to path"

Once you apply that, the sphere will move to the start of the path

With the sphere selected, go to edit, and use reposition to move the sphere, it will move along the path.
With the sphere at the start of the path, create a key_frame. Move the sphere to the end of the path, move the time line to the time wanted, then set another key_frame.
