Full Version: Testing DefenseWall's Protection Functionality

For those who are interested,

I subscribe to the keep it simple stupid(KISS) principle which I mention in post #25 in the following topic below.

http://gladiator-antivirus.com/forum/index...mp;#entry203582

I have experienced my fair share of conflicts while testing and repeatedly installing and uninstalling numerous security programs around DefenseWall(DW). Late last year, while testing DriveSentry(DS);(HIPS) alongside DW(Sandbox HIPS), Primary Response SafeConnect(PRSC);(Intelligent Behavioral Anti-Malware) and LinkScanner Pro(LSP);(Exploit Blocker), for one reason or another, I decided to test "killdisk" which is a nasty piece of malware that corrupts and physically destroys the master boot record(MBR);(low-level disk access) and prevents one's computer from booting against DW. To my surprise and disappointment, DW failed to contain and protect against killdisk. FYI, this is despite having tested DW successfully against killdisk in the past. My thoughts at the time was that there was either a conflict with DS or the repeated installing and uninstalling of security programs some how impaired or interfered with DW's protection functionality. On the other hand, it could have also been a conflict with Shadow Defender(SD) which has recently been known to conflict with DW. In any case, after uninstalling both SD and DS and performing a clean install of DW, DW was able to contain killdisk.

Other than the KISS principle, the other important lesson that I learned while testing other security programs alongside DW is to regularly test actual "destructive" malware(*Note: I use killdisk.) against DW to ensure that it is working properly. This can be safely performed under the protection of Returnil 2008 personal edition(free);(*Note: This is what I use for malware testing purposes.), VM or VirtualBox. Keep in mind that these suggestions are not for the faint of heart or the inexperienced.

It is confirmed Defensewall has a conflict with Shadow Defender (see the extracted information from Shadow Defender site).

How nice if Ilya could investigate & make them work together.

DefenseWall, Comodo Firewall

If you have any product above installed in your PC, please DO NOT install Shadow Defender.

Wouldn't that mean that Shadow Defender has a problem rather than the other way around..and they have to fix it somehow?

It is not a case of who's fault.

It will be good if both vendors could possibly work together to resolve it.

I have tested running Shadow Defender + Sandboxie 3.26 & Shadow Defender + GesWall Pro, no problem.

BTW, I am a registered DefenseWall & Shadow Defender user (also Sandboxie & GesWall Pro).
