do i really need an antivirus software when i have a sandbox(sandboxie or defensewall) ok surfing with internet explorer sandbox or untrusted is safe or if i download something in my real pc and then i apply the rigth click and run sandbox
will be safe i believe and when you have extra security layers there is no need of antivirus.any ideas?any advices? i believe like this because since i started to use sandboxes they provide more secure feeling to my mind and less trouble.any ideas?any oppinions?to be honest i dont like to use virus scaners and dont feel that secure than using a sandbox. yahoo!.gif

Hello jjmonge,

No, especially since you are using ThreatFire alongside a sandbox(DefenseWall or SandBoxie). Although, you have probably read them already, the links below express my opinions on the use of a resident antivirus scanner.

Are the files in question program(.exe, .msi) installation files, picture/graphics files(.jpg, .jpeg, .gif, etc...), .pdf files or document files(.doc, .xls or .ppt)? What, specifically, do you want to accomplish with these files?

Hello jjmonge,

By default, in your example, anything that is downloaded via Internet Explorer or other browsers, media players, email clients, instant messagers, etc... will be automatically marked as "untrusted" by DefenseWall(DW). In your case, you do not have to do anything with DW. On the other hand, there are two instances where it is recommended that you right-click and select "run as trusted all" when running a program. The first instance is, provided that you have downloaded a program from a trusted source and/or scanned this program at VirusTotal(http://www.virustotal.com/) to ensure that it is clean and safe, when attempting to install a new program. The second instance is when attempting to update a program via "automatic updates". Hope this helps.
