Full Version: Too much Security????

I have just had a terrible week cleaning up my Sony Vaio (on Vista) laptop. I had, among other things, TrojanSpy. Goldun.225 and Generic Vundo B on my machine. During the course of my desperation I downloaded Spy Bot, SpyDoctor and Spyware Detector. Some infections were sorted but it took Trojan Hunter to finally locate and remove the two biggies.

After that I tried to clean my machine and ran disc cleanup. In my enthusiasm deleted everything in the temporary folder. This may, or may not, be significant. After that I found that Errorsmart ( my registry cleaner) would not run. Undeterred I tried to log on to the Error smart site but I am told that my security settings won't allow it. I like Errorsmart, how can I get it back and let my sytem allow my back onto the errorsmart site?

Hi sellio; welcome to GSF.

It is advisable to first visit our Hijack This/Malware Cleaning forum.

They will verify if your machine actually is clean now and, only then, can other problems be addressed:

Hi sellio

and Welcome at our small but fine community. Regards to your request I must admit that I didn't heard about that tool before. So giving you any advices without knowing about how that tool works would be unfair. But.... have you had a look here: http://errorsmart.com/support.php

Mmm, yes. I can access Errorsmart on my PC. I have put a HijackThis log on today, although I don't know if I have done it properly. I have since removed SpyBot and Spyware Detector to see if that helped: it didn't!

What did you do that you can access that website now? Any miracles, unknown tricks or other nebulous ways? Makes me more than rather sceptical. I'm feeling tricked.

If you really want to get helped, then please follow the advices our Admin Chachazz told you, otherwise you can't expect to get help. Got it?

No, I can access Errorsmart on my PC but my PC is not the problem. Its my laptop. I have absolutely no idea why I can't access the site. My laptop shows Errorsmart to be a restricted site. I went into Internet options and checked restricted sites but there are none listed. I even tried to put Errorsmat in the trusted site box but I am still no better off. I did post a Hijack this log but I do not really understand what I am doing. I am hoping someone will look at it and help. I am sorry if you felt tricked because I did not make myself clear.

I have just read that clearing the DNS cache may help when you receive repeated error messages for a web address that you know to be correct. I read this on Windows help. I don't know what it means but I am going to follow the instructions and see what happens!

OK! did that: it took two goes to get it right but sill no Errorsmart! Decided to reboot and try but still no Errorsmart! What is confusing me is I haven't found any other sites that this rejection happens with. Totally puzzled.

PS. What does DNS mean?
Nebon
Hi Sellio

DNS means Domain Name System, it is the 'phonebook' of the internet. It translates host names, such as www.google.com into an ip address which can be used by the computer. I would post a hijackthis log for your laptop (the computer you are having a problem with), in our Hijackthis forum, which was earlier pointed out by our admin Chachazz (if you are stuck on how to do that, follow these guidelines), and an expert should get to you soon. After that if you are still having a problem come back here and I will do my best to help you.

Have a great day

The site in your Hijackthis log suggests you are trying to access the site www.errorsmart.co.uk, however I myself cannot get to the page and it seems not to exist (after searching google and only bringing up the .com site). I suggest trying www.errorsmart.com

Thankyou Nebon. I clicked the link but...same old..same old.
"Internet Explorer cannot dislplay the web page". I am a little comforted that you too had difficulty accessing it.
