Full Version: Please Don't Punch My Nose

i know i am a complete newb to this forum, and am somewhat hesitant to proceed with this post. but i have to know. prior to installing Defensewall, i read many topics on Wilders Security forum relating to DW & Geswall. before finally making up my mind on which app to trial, i read an old 2006 Kardj...i can't spell his name, test of DF ver 1.4X. DFZ performed well, but one of the comments by the folk involved was how limited the log file was. i remember chuckling thinking that this was 2 years ago and surely handled now. guess what? it isn't!? the Event Viewer is limited to 50 entries. WHY??

i have plenty of disk space, and can handle a much, much, larger logfile. and even if i couldn't shouldn't i be afforded the choice? for example, i use Opera, and Opera blows through 50 entries in less than 5 minutes. if DW logged something i considered significant, i would never see it. cmon ILYA, release the hounds! i want 20,000 entries a day, with the option for 50,000 more yahoo!.gif

i do realise Ilya, that this is your baby, your software, and i am just (when and if i license) leasing the right to use it. and i also recall reading somewhere where you stated something to the effect that you will maintain your right to develop DW as your vision dictates. all well and good. but something like the Event Viewer in my opinion is a personal choice function and could greatly enhance the usability of DW to fit individual needs/wants. there IS a difference between being in control, and controlling.

btw, my nose is still sore from the last person to punch it, so please be gentle. friends.gif

Log file is limited to 50 records because, in fact, it's pure technical. It helps me to fix issues remotely, nothing more and nothing less. For this purpose, it's more then enough.

that adds a twist. while 50 entries is not enough, it apparently will have to suffice. thanks for shedding some light.

Use the file and registry track instead, that is developed for power users.

Ilya knows his programming capacities best, when he can manage to trouble shoot and debug with 50 entries it is enough :-)
