hello all,
I have been using AVG free edition ever since I was introduced to it in school a few years ago. I also have Spyware doctor----------is that enough to catch the big, ugly viruses for my Windows XP?

I just found Norton to be so resource heavy and sluggish------scans take forever to finish!

Hi lgreen35

and welcome at GSFs. Hope we can help you with your requests.

Well every AV program gives a bit security for your work at your computer. There are good, free and inexpensive programs and 'expensive' ones. All what counts is how much money you can afford for such a program cause you've to renew the licenses after 1 year again.

But...
Looks ok what you told us about your prevention ;). Only take care of AVG cause there'd been problems with updating from rel. 7.x to 8.x.

Have a look at the test results here.

The last on demand tests AVG scored very highly.

Do you have a firewall installed?

I would also suggest using spybot alongside Spyware Doctor.

You can get enough protection for free, however the biggest problem with computer security is not software it's the person sat in front of the PC. You can have the best security going but if the user doesn't use their brain the PC will get infected.
