Hi!

So, my notebook is having an inconsistent problem. Maybe one out of three times it'll be just fine. Otherwise, it decides to act weird. After I turn it on, it'll go to the log-in screen, but after I log in, all it will display is a black screen with the mouse cursor. The desktop and taskbar won't show up. All I've been doing is forcing it off and back on, hoping that it'll work normally. Sometimes if I just wait, it will load after around ten minutes. I called HP support, but since I'm out of warranty, they won't help me. What can I do?

Hi!

My operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm not entirely sure what patchlevel is, but I do have tons of security updates for Microsoft Window and for Microsoft Office. I also have Office 2007 Service Pack 1 and Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3). My only antivirus/firewall is Norton. My dad installed most of everything, so I'm a bit clueless.

The log-on screen is the one for Vista. The one where it's blue/green and has the profile picture and the box for the password.

I'm sorry - I'm not very computer literate.

Thanks!

Main update should be SP 1 for Vista and Office 2007. All other patches, updates, hotfixes came along with the regulary patchdays. You can find more details at
Control-panel ==> Programs and Functions ==> Installed Updates (upper left corner)

Hmmm Office 2007 didn't remover the older 2003 release during the install process. I know that older releases should get removed by 2007 first. So it makes me wonder how you can have two different Office releases...

Ahhhhh 'The Yellow ones' are taking care of your computer. I hope it's up-2-date too.

Hey, it's ok. We try hard to learn here too ;)

Tell me please Magaret, Vista wasn't installed BEFORE on that HP notebook right? Must have been a XP installation cause HP notebooks with Vista are still on warranty (Vista isn't that old ....). I am right with my assumptions?

Have a great day and greetings from Germany

Hi!

Ok, so there's quite a few updates. Do you want me to list them all, or should I print screen (several times) and post that? There's four Cumulative Updates for Media Center for Windows Vista, 2 Hotfixes for Microsoft Windows, and many many Security Updates and Updates for Microsoft Windows.

About Office, I only have the Compatibility Version of 2007, so my dad installed Office 2003. I kept the 2007 because sometimes I need to open files in 2007 format.

Norton should be up to date, or at least that's what LiveUpdate tells me.

Actually, the Vista came on my computer since I got the computer in April 2007. My warranty only lasted a year.

Thanks!

Thank you! Does this mean I should just uninstall the Office 2007 compatability version?

Heya songbreez

I would uninstall the 2007 compatibility packs, doing a reboot and installing them again. Maybe there's a glitch when the packs got installed first time. Please have a closer look at the link stidyup told about.

Bye bye
B. Udo

PS: I won't be back til next Monday

Hi!

Whenever I try to uninstall it, I get this message:

C:\Users\Margaret\AppData\Local\Temp\Setup000004f0\OSETUP.DLL digital signature does not validate or is not present.

Also, whenever I start my computer, I get a message that is something like:

ONENOTEM.EXE-Bad Image
C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft Office\Office12\1033\ONINTL.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

Do you think this has anything to do with my problem?

Thanks!
Margaret
