Ooooook you're looking for a new AV program. Which product did you use til now? What kind of hardware (total RAM size, processor speed, operating system) do you use? Cann you give us some more details about your PC please?

Good addresses to get an overview and details about AV programs and its qualities can be found here:

1. http://www.av-test.org/ here

2. http://www.virusbtn.com/news/2008/09_02 or here

3. http://www.av-comparatives.org/ (Choose Comparatives from the left menue)

F-Secure is a known and good program. Takes a bit longer to scan a complete computer but scan speed depends on your system you're running an AV program with. The table (s. 3.) does show you that F-Secure has nearly the same quality like the Kaspersky product.
So many vendors integrate multiple scan engines of other vendors in their products to cover 'all' possible kind of infections.

IMHO look for an AV scanner which suites to your computer, means if your computer is an old and slow one (less RAM, slow processor and HDDs) choose a product, that doesn't makes your PC slower.

Heya Sentinel,

thanks for your warm welcome and your fast and profound reply. well, before i was going on trial versions of different kinds, free programmes like avira ... trying here and there. i have a duo celeron core, 120 gb harddisk, 2 gb ram, operating on vista OMG.gif (i want my xp back!!!) ... yep, i had read that most av-programmes are slowing down the puter (which i don't really mind, i'm taking a break for that time and have a good excuse a s well .. ;o)))

okay, so i'll check your recommended links as well -
you have a great rest of the weekend

Hi Biffy

you're always welcome to ask our staff. Thats our job trying to help. I assume you're running a notebook, cause this hardware configuration is typical for a low-cost (but doesn't mean it must be bad) offer.

Have you tried one of this free AV scanners:

BitDefender Free does not provide real-time guard...it's useful, as on-demand scanner.
