Full Version: Removable USB Drive - Trust vs Untrust

I am testing DW for the 1st time, and I need assistance with the concept of trust and non-trust with a USB Flash drive. Here's my issue:

(1) When I set-up DW, I chose the option to "Automatically run apps from removable sources as untrusted" - as this seems like a logical and prudent security measure.

(2) I use Truecrypt in "travelers mode", which means I keep its executables on a USB key.

My question - How to I set up DW so it will allow (trust) Truecrypt while otherwise not trusting any other apps from removable drives - and remember this setting?

Thanks!

Simple- just add all the apps you need as "Untrusted applications excludes".

Thanks! Untrusted > Excludes solved my original problem, and I was able to access the TrueCrypt (and also GnuPG) executables and configuration files on my USB drive.

Now I have a 2nd problem, and I'm not sure if it's related to the 1st.

I mounted the TrueCrypt container, but after I closed the "My Computer" folder, I can't re-open it nor "My Documents" folders. I get an hourglass, and then - nothing happens. When I open Windows Task Manager, I have 3 instances of explorer.exe active ! This is only corrected after I reboot.

Here's what else is resident on my system

WinXP Pro - SP3
Comodo FW 3 with D+
Avira Antivir AV

Can you help me troubleshoot this?
Thanks.

I just tested this again. Here's a more accurate description.

DW allows me to mount the TrueCrypt container, but after I DISMOUNT - that's when I start having explorer.exe problems. Thx.

Please, try the latest DW's build here www.softsphere.com/files/temp/DefenseWall_HIPS_v2_45.exe. In case it won't helps- mail me to the support e-mail.

Ilya:

The new build solved my earlier problems. So far, I have seen no more explorer.exe hangs when I mount/dismount Truecypt containers.

Thanks!
