Hi,

I'm trying to get a wireless router working with some problems!

The computer is running vista with a Netgear DG834G v3 Router,

It connects to the internet perfectly when the cable is connected,

The person has bought a belkin Wireless G USB Adapter which has also been installed and finds the wireless network no problem.

As soon as you try to connect and input the password it simply won't connect to the wireless network. I've tried it with no security with exactly the same results.

We've even tried to connect the Playstaion3 up (which also finds the network but can't connect).

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've set up several wireless networks on PC's running Vista before with no problems at all. This one is proving to be a nightmare!!!!

Is wireless connection enabled in your routers wireless settings and not encrypted in any way until a connection is established.

Make sure your router is set to enable DHCP, as this will give your wireless card an IP address automatically.

Ensure your card is set to obtain an ip address automatically.

If not look in your routers setup(normally by typing 192.168.2.1, in your internet browser) to see what IP address and DNS address it has given your connected pc (eg 192.168.2.3).

Then go into your cards properties and use the IP address 192.168.2.4, but the same DNS address(probably 255.255.255.0); then re start the wireless pc and the router if neccasary.

If you still get no connection, ensure wireless light is on; on your router, and you have no obstacles in the way of the signal.


If you are using WEP encryption it is normally a Shared key setting rather than an open key setting.

Can your friend return the belkin usb and get another device ? Is is hooked up to a laptop or a desktop PC ?
If it is a laptop the pcima cards seem to work better .
