By browsing the internet I came accross the topic "no systemsound, other sounds fine"
It goes:
"I have a wierd problem.... I get no system sounds, like windows startup, shutdown, etc. Yet when something with sound plays, the sound is fine! Music, CD,s etc. Play fine. now, when I go to sounds in control panel and 'test' the sound it plays! I know how to assign sounds, play them, etc. but this one is a puzzler. :boh: (Windows XP Pro)

The difference is that I do not get any systemsound at all, whereas three third party applications listed
in the control panel give a beep from inside the case.

I do have "msacm32.drv" in the proper directory.

However reference is made to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
but it is not clear to me where exactly the registry has to be changed and I do not know how?

Will you please be so kind to inform me about this.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi boekanier and welcome to GSF.

System sound and Audio sound have different settings.

In XP go to Control Panel > Sounds & Audio and check the settings for Tab: Volume / Tab: Sounds

Thank you for welcoming me as well for your reaction of course.

I have been there many times and the settings are correct.
Yet I did it ince more.

Browsing with Google I found a lot of similar topics, with the exception that in my case the wav files for
Mailwasher, PocoMail and Avast are replaced by a beep.
No Windows sounds, music and video sounds are alright.

With the helpdesk of Mailwasher we have gone into the matter very deeply, without any success.
This makes me conclude that it willbe far from simple to find the solution if any.

May be Kellys korner but as I said it is not clear where exactly and how I have to adapt
the register.

Sorry for thanking you only now.
Most probably caused by the fact, that I tried several sources of which the majority sends an email when a reaction has been received.

As far as your link is concerned I didnot find anything I tried/checked earlier.

New is that when the computer awakens from the sleeping mode, I hear two short windows sounds
quickly after each other.

As a matter of fact I did throw the towel into the ring and are going to live with it.
