Hello,

I understand there is still no 64bit solution?
Will there be a 64bit solution ??
If so, can you please give an time indication ? 3rd quarter 2009 ? secret.gif

thnx!!

I don't know. My current roadmap is about whitelisting and traffic control implementation.

Hi Ilya,

Another vote for 64-bit support. I already have a DW licence for my XP system, would really love to use DW on a 64-bit Vista laptop as well.

Great product though, even without 64-bit support. :) thumbsup.gif

I have switched to x64 as well and I am missing something. uhm.gif

hey guys,

i agree, this needs doing.

to me, this would be more important than a v3 being developed, im switching to x64 hopefully in the next month.
Ilya Rabinovich
Sorry, V3 first, then, after the version's polish, I'll turn to the x64 compatibility problem if it is ever possible with the PatchGuard.

Thanks for that - I really do hope that PatchGuard is not going to be a problem, I see DW as being an important part of my protection, regardless of whether it is x32 or x64.

I hope so too. As a BizSpark subscriber I have two support issues. One of it will be used to make DefenseWall x64-compatible.

That sounds promising then.

darn it, this is annoying. (through no fault of your own, just my own situation)

only got my prolongation a few weeks ago as you probably remember Ilya, and now im getting a x64 machine (already ordered)

ilya i realize that you have a business plan, and software development plan that you don't wish, or just can't make a paradigm shift in.

but i have pre-ordered windows7 and plan on installing the 64bit version. i don't have too much to worry about myself, because amd 64 based chips can run 64-bit os and 32bit prgs., unless that prg is written at the driver level. hmmm, i seem to remember that dw is.

but my point is that a huge number of people are going to do the same thing- especially since win7 is being sold at 50%, and most newer machines will run the 64bit edition.

you may alienate a lot of users unless you make the 64bit version a priority, due to the release of windows7 on or about oct23.

just out of curiosity, i was wondering how much time it would take to produce a 64bit version. Is that a big undertaking?

I doubt very much that Ilya will lose many customers due to the lack of 64bit version. The number of people using 64-bit/Windows 7 in the next 6 months/year will be very small in relation to the whole market.

A number of security vendors, apart from Ilya, such as Tzuk at Sandboxie have stated that there will be no 64-bit version for the foreseeable future due to PatchGuard.

Therefore "alienation of a lot of users" seems to me to be a little far fetched for now.

Those DW users buying new machines will just have to bite the bullet for now.

No problem, you still can use x32 OS with VirtualPC/VirtualBox virtual machine.

Yes, I understand the problem, but I still can't find the way to provide as strong protection with x64 bit OSes and don't want to release DefenseWall Placebo Version.

I can live with it.

Nope, I do the things right exactly according my roadmap.

It's not about time, it's about that crappy PatchGuard. If I don't find the way to provide as string protection as I do with x32, the x64 version will never been released. Security first.
mossman
I can appreciate your approach there - I would much prefer a proper, secure implementation rather than to have a warm, fuzzy feeling that DW is fully protecting me when in fact it is not.
Mercurybird
I can appreciate it too. I had no idea that the 64bit version was as technical and limited as it is, at least due to crappy patchguard.

certainly it does go without saying... security first.

thank you ilya for not allowing uninformed fans like myself to drag you off on rabbit trails. OMG.gif
C.S.J
sure, security first.

but no version to me, is no security at all in regards to defensewall. OMG.gif
