Hi ams

please give us some time to find detailed info for you. Reason: it isn't easy to tell another person how to change such electrical items not causing any risks.

Thanks for the response, Below are the symptoms:

I have to hold the poer button for very long duration and press it several times, and after some failed attempts it will start up (Its the same case when its on battery or DC, but in DC the failure attempts are less then when in Battery mode)

I gave this to Toshiba service center for investigation and they confirmed that the Power button has a problem and the cost of the board will be 20 USD and additional Service charge will be 125 + tax. Seeing this being worked out so expensive I decided to not service there instead I bought a power board from ebay and am planning to assemble it. Any help with this regard will be helpful.

Use the links in my above posting to get to the power board and replace it..

The common problems in Toshiba laptops:

No power at all: Bad power chip, open circuit, short circuit, or loose connection.
Symptoms:Nothing showing up when you press the power button

Also since you have it open it would be a good idea to clean the heatsink in that model

Toshiba Satellite M55

You can easily clean the heatsink and the fan if you remove the keyboard from the lapop (Steps 1,6,7,8,9,11). If the laptop is warm in the area of the hard drive, it is possible that hard drive will fail soon.

Good..don't forget there are 4 pages of instructions to see on that model M55..and your powerboard is shown on this page

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Tosh...therboard_2.htm

Best for you to look at steps 10 throught 17 especially.

Let us know how you make out...also look closely at the power input connection jack where the charger plugs in and make sure there are no cold solder joints on the Printed Circuit Board..at times these grow weak with pluging the charger into the laptop over the years and have to be resoldered.

Hunter, I have a similar problem and question for you as well. The screen on my daughter's M55 often goes black on the right half and normal on the left half. We can often "fix" it by squeezing along the top edge of the lid & screen until we find a place that snaps the picture back to full screen. I've taken it apart and the connections are secure. It seems like something going on with that strip of circuit board running across the top of the screen and not the invertor board at the bottom. The odd thing is it seems to snap back after squeezing in random locations along the top, not the same location from one time to the next. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi michel3442

Welcome at GSFs. Have fun here like we all have. I am sorry to tell you that Hunter is on vacation. He'll show up from time to time when he has access to an internet connection. Hopefully he'll be back in the first week of September...

Hi michael3442

Hunter is still on vacation, so I'll try to help you. Has that notebook fallen to ground or got it a hit? Does the same happen at other resolutions?
Which one is the standard one when running that notebook? Did you try changing it?
