Hi everyone, i have just uninstalled Symantec and switch over to kaspersky(or would like to) and i cannot. first off their notebook version doesn't detect my sony vaio as a notebook then the regular AV software detects spybot on my computer. I've deleted every possible trace of spybot searching through every file in explorer... how is it still detecting anything and why won't it install after reboots? any help would be appreciated.

Kosta

update: my installed programs list under add/remove programs in control panel is still showing spybot... how do i remove this!>?

Hello Kosta

and Welcome at GSFs. Enjoy our small board friends.gif

Before installing a new AV program: Uninstall the old one.... properly! In your case tell us more about the NAV Version you did uninstall, please. To do yo, run Symantec's Clean Wipe .

More, direct un-install orders can be found at Kaspersky Forums,
title: 'Removing other anti-viruses, Before installing Kaspersky'. KAV / KIS is easy to install and sholuldn't show up with problems.

But:
How could you caught an infection when running an AV program? Didn't you keep it up-2-date? What about keeping your OS up-2-date with patches, hotfixes and Service Packs?

Would be interesting for us to have more details to help you....

hey i was using Symantec Endpoint which can be removed by the windows remove programs tool, that was simple and done. I'm having an issue with Spybot Search and Destroy, it's not fully uninstalling itself and i cannot remove it from the add/remove programs list. Every time i try installing Kaspersky the installer tells me that it is incompatible with Spybot and will uninstall it. i've tried through manual uninstallations, i've tried through windows uninstallations, and ive tried through Kaspersky's uninstaller to remove spybot and nothing is working. i've even tried re-installing spybot to uninstall it and still no success.
Im running windows XP.
and yes after i did one uninstall of spybot through its uninstaller, I then searched through hidden files and folders and deleted some remaining Spybot folders... but still it is not working, Kaspersky continues to close the installer because it Spybot keeps showing up.

Hi kocho333;

The problem is : must disable SDhelper and TeaTimer before uninstall (via Add/Remove), clean out any remaining files like in Application Data (AppData), etc., and restart the computer.

If your trouble re Spybot continues, reinstall Spybot..then disable SDH and TT, and use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall it...it will run the program uninstaller plus scan for all left over files...checkmark the BOLDed ones and 'delete', after that if it still shows some window directory items, expand each item, and eventually there will be more to delete.

It should now be all gone. Reboot. Plus follow TheSentinel's direction about Symantec.

Revo is great! and no-install(portable).
