I've used this same Sony analog video camera to connect to this same Sony desktop in the past, but now the computer won't recognize the video camera. Please help, thank you!

Hi nothelpless

Can you give us some more details please?

How do you connect that camera with your computer?
Are all cables ok, no bucklings?
Did you go for an update of the software in use?
If you didn't update that software lately, are there any of them?
Did you install any software lately?

Thanks for your help

Hi TheSentinel --

I used to connect this sony analog video camera to my computer with the three av cables (yellow, white & red) -- this now doesn't work, so I tried the S-video cable -- also didn't work.

I used Click to DVD (Sony) as the software, and it now does not recognize that the camera is connected and on - VTR. I no longer get an option in the software to select "Analog" vs. I-Link that pops up.

I may have added software to my computer since I last used this setup, but yesterday I removed "Realplay" thinking that could be a culprit. Still not working

Yesterday, I went out to buy a USB 2.0 Video capture device, that comes with software, and this worked -- one end connects to the camera with the three av cables, and the other USB end connects to the computer.

This morning, I was still trying to figure out why the original method won't work, and I remembered there was something I had to do with (I think a) "Removable Storage" setting. I'm not positive, but when I was this under "Services" - it rang a bell . . .

Thank you for your assistance. -- nothelpless

Yes, this is a picture of the device I used: http://imagescl.cyberguys.com/images/prod_main/P17478A.jpg

There are many brands, the one I bought is SIIG "USB 2.0 Video Capture Device, (looks exactly like the picture)" and it comes with software to capture the video -- my computer still doesn't recognize that the camera is connected in "C" drive, but the software, Honestech's "VHS to DVD" captures the video from my camcorder (could also connect a VCR or other peripherals), and has editing functions as well.

Note: In order for it to work for me, I had to first open the software, then connect the USB to the computer, without first connecting the USB to my camera, and then connected the USB's av adapters to the camera's av adapters. Click the icon next to the Capture menu box to select Capture Source: TV, Composite (connection I used) or S Video (still need to use the two av adapters (red & white) to capture audio with the S-Video cord. Switched on camcorder to VTR, press play to view and record/burn.

This works perfectly! Hope the info is useful to others.

Thank you. -- nothelpless
